Ignore for a moment the absurd benefits like free lunches on top of large salaries…on a pure human-level, how are these guys supposed to go home tonight and look their wives’ boyfriends in the eye?

Owning the libs trumps being a somewhat decent person.

They'll have about 3 months to figure out their next move. I imagine MANY have already been looking. Being a computer engineer doesn't seem like an industry where finding work will be difficult. I'm sure BRick knows.

Some seem the believe that Musk's hard line benefits the company by weeding out the guys who weren't willing to work hard. The more likely result is that many who chose to stay did so because they were afraid they couldn't find work elsewhere. Those who are highly skilled don't have that concern.

unless they have a job offer in hand, everyone has self doubt, except for the ignorant or egotists.

They get 3 months severance and probably already know what the market for their services looks like. I wouldn't doubt that many (if not most) do have job offers waiting for them. As I wrote before, the ones that don't are staying. That's not necessarily a good thing.

Dude paid 44 billion for Twitter, surely all the engineers that are leaving were holding down its value while all the ones staying are going to increase it.

A lot of tears for high dollar workers who will be just fine. This isn’t a JC Penney closing.

Imagine thinking all those people that were laid off and that are quitting were necessary to the operation of Twitter, when it hasn’t changed one iota since Musk bought it .

or healthcare workers, city employees, or anyone that lost their job due to not agreeing to get a vaccine mandated on them. I’m guessing most if not all of those people didn’t get three months severance either.

Of course Twitter can carry on for a while with a reduced workforce. Any large (non-service) company could. It’s really a question about the long term effects. Innovation, maintenance, security, expansion are critical to keeping tech-based companies alive. We’ll see how it plays out but the fact that they had to bring in engineers from Tesla and SpaceX to keep things running at Twitter isn’t a good sign.

The number of engineers required to operate Twitter’s critical systems are down to two or even zero, the Washington Post reported. “I know of six critical systems (like ‘serving tweets’ levels of critical) which no longer have any engineers,” a former employee told the Post. “There is no longer even a skeleton crew manning the system. It will continue to coast until it runs into something, and then it will stop.”

Admittedly when any idiot could change their Verified name to whatever they wanted, Twitter was at it's most entertaining in quite some time.

You love saying stuff like this. Why would anybody that actually likes using twitter want it to fail? And why would somebody like me, who doesn't use any social media, care one way or the other about it? I get that it somehow became political - where neo-cons like you and BRogue are suddenly Muskies. Frankly I don't care any more about his political leanings than I did about TLR's. The only difference is I wish TLR would have proven me wrong and turned the Sox into a juggernaut. I truly don't care one way or the other about Musk, Bezos or any of the other Billionaires with outsized egos that think the public should listen to them because they are successful.

FWIW, I actually do admire Musk for his willingness to push the envelope in high-tech industries. He's a risk-taker with a lot of innovative ideas. It's just that he also seems like a bit of a nut-case that has trouble with personal interaction.

They want Musk to fail, but are more afraid of it going away.

Twitter is probably a net positive for how it flattened the playing field between traditional media corps and regular citizens. It wasnt the first thing to flatten the field - there were blogs and other mechanisms before it - but it streamlined things and fueled the growth of a massive interconnected community. It's helped people on the ground report out on rebellions, wars, and other breaking news sort of stuff. Media conglomerates had no choice but to join it lest they lose relevance and share. That's pretty powerful.

its funny how many guys dont know that rule. its usually the early 20s guys. the first thing they say to a girl "how old are you?" as if theyre both 6. it might be ok when youre teenagers but after that its always a miss. i love seeing the bartenders face when she gets asked that question. inner me is screaming 'dude shes fuckable. thats how old she is'

on the flip side girls get really weirded out when they find out i lied about my age. because they ask me all the time. you dont like that question and neither do it. you lie about it, i will too.

You are right and that is my point. Prior to Twitter and I am sure for quite awhile after the Score and Bernstein had no interest in social media at all! Purposely avoided it.

Then it was apparent he would be Twitter active and promote that and the show guests Twitters on the radio. He was forced.

Then we were sure the original score was dead and Bernsie was a complete sellout to the master/paycheck.

Well said.

Add in the fact that Elon appears to be a complete ego-maniac and self-serving fraud. I take nothing away from his intelligence and innovation, but he's also full of shit. I've actually met some 20 somethings and they think the guy walks on water...it's kind of sad.
