He can't. That is why you just do what a cop says.

So, let's say Officer Bob shows up at your door and wants to have a look around with no warrant. Do you just let him in?

so you guys are proposing physical resistance to a cop when you think you are being wronged. Good luck with that.

The CT cop they reference in there is one town over from where I live. The state's attorney is taking a beating over it (no pun intended), as she should.

Ok. Are there any other items from the Bill of Rights that you are okay with forfeiting?

So you guys are saying that someone being accosted by a criminal with a gun should try to physically dominate this individual.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

But you're viewing from a very low perspective. Take a step back and think about the role of police and the rights we are granted in this country. Don't you see the need for at least a little bit of skepticism?

I was never really a fan of no "double jeopardy." It sounds fun. Why would we disallow it?

No worries. We've worked around that one by bringing slightly different federal cases after the state prosecutors can't make the original charges stick in court.

Am I skeptical of the legal system as a whole? yes. Am I skeptical that Officer Joe is a law abiding cop just trying to do his job? No, not really. Unless provided evidence to the contrary.

Even in this specific case, I'd like to flesh out the facts the best we can before declaring the guy a murderer as others have done in this thread.

Why do you think that a person is not a criminal simply based on who his employer might be?

Not sure how you could gather that from what I've said. What % of cops are criminals? 5%? I dunno. probably less but I'll give you that. Why would I assume someone is a criminal when there is a 95% chance he is not?

I have no idea what the percentage might actually be, but I would guess the percentage of police that are criminals is somewhat higher than the general population. They simply have more opportunity to act criminally without reprecussion.

sometimes you just gotta use common sense. 10% of cops are criminals?

You think 25%-plus are criminals? That would certainly be problematic.

depends on what your definition of criminal is

I think the things you view as "common sense" might be part of the problem here. I wouldn't have a hard time at all believing more than 25% of police are criminals. But you'd have to define criminals.

you gotta think anybody that would "steal" coffee would fudge a few facts on a report. personally, I have never seen this happen, but I'm sure it does. If I run a gas station and I have told officer bob to help themselves to a cup of coffee whenever they want, that probably isn't stealing. I would not do this as a cop, though. Unethical.

Would you agree that most cops (and teachers) don't see this as unethical?
