The Sox could be on a 20 game winning streak and as long as there was the tiniest positive for the Cubs, like Federowicz getting a hit or something, the Sox couldn't move the Cubs off the back page. But the Cubs drop a doubleheader and a Sox loss gets the entire back page: TEXAS MISSTEP! On the bottom of the page in tiny print: Cubs drop two.

The Sox were on the back cover a few weeks ago I think.

The bottom had an Arrietta Dominant story or something.

holy shit did i just go in a time machine? To a time when printed newspapers were still relevant? who cares about how a paper with a circulation just above this website's membership chooses to fill its sports section?

I know a real lot of shit because I read both papers everyday. I realize most of you don't put much value on knowing anything though.

For the record it's fairly common knowledge that I'm not in the "under 30" crowd ... as a matter of fact, I've got a couple of newspapers on the kitchen table right now.

I can't read the Sun-Times any longer. It's so stripped down that it makes me sad. Such a shame.

I pick up a paper whenever I get nostalgic for the late 90s or earlier. :D

Michael Ferro, the guy who bought the Sun-Times a few years back and turned it into complete shite, bought a large chunk of Tribune Publishing stock earlier this year.

So he ostensibly stepped back from destroying the Sun-Times to focus on destroying the Chicago Tribune and other Tribune properties.

Ferro's plan appears to be to try to get Tribune Publishing to overpay for various Sun-Times assets that Ferro is 10's of millions of dollars in the hole on:
including Splash (oops, Trib already bought that last month) and Aggrego (Trib is now paying them $500K a month for content?) .

http://www.robertfeder.com/?s=Ferro

http://www.robertfeder.com/page/2/?s=Ferro

Gannett has thrown a monkey wrench into Ferro's plan to bail out his own losses in the Sun-Times investment via the Tribune's coffers by offering to by Tribune Publishing for a premium.. Tribune shareholders want to do the deal, Ferro (for the above reasons) isn't quite ready to sell the Trib to Gannett--because once Gannett is in control, no way will they overpay for Ferro's / Wrapports failed efforts back at the Sun-Times.

Gannett will be able to wait for Sun-Times to go back into bankruptcy and then cherry pick what they want of the Sun-Times--if they want any of it--for a nice discount.

Beautiful. The south-side inbreds start off playing over their heads and insecure fans of the only team to ever sell the World Series to gamblers get butt-hurt over the Sun Times coverage.

Except it's widely known the Cubs threw the Series the very next season, you goof. You're the one who is insecure about a shitty baseball team. And for good reason. Wait 'til next year.

Put 1918 World Series fix into a search engine, jimmy. I'm not making shit up. In fact, that was one of the reasons the Sox justified doing it the following year.
