Please, please prevent Ron Coomer from doing anymore play by play. I'd rather, during the inning Pat Hughes takes a break, they have Microsoft Sam read off the MLB Gameday feed...30 second delay and all.

Fowler hits a hard, deep fly ball that Piscotty had to run in on and make a diving catch. What?

Yeah, Grote should be filling in. They had Moreland doing pbp too and he was just as bad if not worse.

Coomer is just fine as an analyst. They could do better...but it is acceptable.

But there has to be some AA announcer out there that would jump at the chance to do one inning per game for a relatively minimal salary.

I think he was hired because Pat just wanted to keep saying the name 'Ron'.

Well Pat has that right. Best in the business.

He gets whatever he wants.

Bob Dernier was good filling in a while ago.

They should get Ryan Theriot.

Ryan Dempster. He can do his hilarious Harry Caray impersonations.

Dempster does a Cubs weekly morning segment with Steve Cochran on WGN.

I think it is on Thursday mornings? He's very good and funny.

I'm not sure if his schtick could endure throughout an entire season but he would make the booth entertaining for sure.

Amazing that a guy who works 3 hours a day needs a break.

That's the odd thing though. He's still in the booth. He chimes in here and there. He just doesn't do play-by-play.

Uecker and Hamilton (Indians) both take mid-game breaks as well. I don't understand why.

It's been discussed in another thread but I like the old days when the radio and television guys would switch off for the middle innings. I really liked how it gave them exposure to another audience on a small but consisitent basis.

I was being sarcastic. The only Harry Caray impersonation that is worse, is Will Ferrell's.

I was talking in general - he is a pretty funny guy.

Chus, I agree, his Caray voice is not that good.

He has a pretty good sense of humor from what I have heard on the Thursday morning analysis on WGN.

I know I'm in the minority but I think Ferrell is an idiot.

He goes potty during that break. He jumps on broadcast when done.

Not calling all nine innings on the radio by yourself all year is a long baseball tradition. Vin Scully never did; I think Jerry Doggett did the even-numbered innings in Brooklyn. Uecker is old and calls the game solo, so I get why he'd take three innings off.

You know who the only guy is who does all nine innings on the radio? John Sterling. And his partner is Kyle's mom from South Park, so he's really doing two-and-a-half jobs: his, hers, and the extra labor of having to explain everything to her. He's still pretty bad, of course. For being the baseball team, the Yankees' broadcast history since Mel Allen is a long crappy mess.

Hughes solo with Grote filling in during the 5th would be my choice

Harry Caray had 10 strokes and was drunk and still called nine innings. I think Pat Hughes can handle it.

Yeah, but Harry probably just pissed himself and didn't even notice.

Underwhelming MLB Career and he spent 1 whopping season with the Cubs. His analysis isn't very good. Jesus....even Darin Jackson is a better analyst.

Approved.

My foreman has a bucket in his truck for this exact purpose. It has a big S written on it with a sharpie.

I have shat in a cardboard box on a job site. Throw it in a dumpster, and go on with your day.

He should just shit on a glass coffee table in the booth and tell everybody he's honoring Brickhouse.

Post subject:  Re: Cubs Radio Network

Maybe that 's how the Brickhouse fetish began- he'd step out of the booth onto the steel grand catwalk, squat down between the handrails and drop a deuce right into the trough below. After years of being the performer, he wanted the view from below, as well.
