Post subject:  Leaning in like the pope

Been dating this girl since last September, she lives in another state.

She's crazy pretty, great fun to be around, smaht and all that; but she's young, too young for me and the long-distance thing.

We're going to new york next weekend. At least we're supposed to. Both airfares (southwest, so no change fees), hotel, concert and broadway shows and tourist-pass attraction things all bought and pre-paid for (about $3K total). She's very excited to go to new york city, she's never been. I've been to new york many a time, great place.

Anyhow, I don't see this whole thing working out. And plan on conveying that to her sooner than later.

Should I still go to nyc with her next weekend? if we go to nyc together and then a few weeks later that's it, seems like a shit thing for her. gnomesayin. i could tell her ahead of time and she could go to new york with a friend or something instead.

She's never been before. Dont ruin her first trip to NYC by dumping her right before. Take her there, show her a good time and then slowly fade out afterwards. Hell, after taking a trip with you; SHE might be the one to decide it isnt working out.

I don't think anyone owes anyone else an explicit explanation of their long term intentions. This isn't the Victorian era. For all you know she's riding along with you because you're a fun guy with lots of disposable cash. Maybe she's telling her friends, "This is fun for now, but I know it isn't going anywhere. That fucker is old!" Live in the moment. Allow relationships to develop organically rather than looking for levels like a video game.

Just keep it alive until she ends it. It's always worked for me!

Just go man. Have a good time. Don't be a Danny downer the whole trip either. Try to act like a good friend w/ benefits instead of a boyfriend.

I'll be honest, I'm having a little trouble reckoning with Hussra being a human being with feelings and not just a mysterious UNVERIFIED evil genius.

True. Besides don't spend $3k on someone you are going to dump.

You gotta have fun too. Just be up front and tell her you aren't looking for anything serious.

eh, other than her airfare and her tickets to the shows/concerts/attractions/museums (tho those are mostly pay what ya like in new york), the rest is what i'd pay to go even if i was going solo.

That's true but you have a different kind of fun with women you know that you could never seriously date. You should have fun when you are single. You'll recognize the women that have marriage potential.

do i tell her it's not going to continue after new york when we're on top the Empire State building watching the sun set beyond the Hudson River the first night we're there? Or on the uber ride back to LaGuardia the following week?

I'll prolly tell her when we're both mad drunk at 3 AM at some lower east side dive. If any of those still exist. I hope Fish Bar is still there.

Just bang her a few times per day, get it out of your system.
