The "game" has become a race to shout the loudest and say the most outrageous stuff. Donald Trump is a consequence of this kind of thinking. He has said stuff that should disqualify him in the court of public opinion (ban Muslims from entering U.S. and all Mexicans are drug dealers and rapists), and yet he not only wins the nomination but he has also garner significant support.

This goes hand in hand with the rise of propaganda news channels- Fox and MSNBC as well as communication media Twitter, Facebook, and all the other outlets for people to spew hateful rhetoric.

It is damn near impossible to have a rational, intellectual political discussion anymore. A few years back I was talking to my in laws about why the Bush administrations use of "enhanced interrogation" techniques was a bad idea and against basic American values. The response was near universal that not only should we torture every captured enemy combatant, we should also drop nuclear bombs across the Middle East. I knew then, we were heading in a bad direction. I politely asked what we would expect to happen to our captured soldiers, and the folks hadn't contemplated that their course of action would lead to retaliation against Americans.

I think a lot of that is not obvious to a lot of people.

We're probably in agreement but disagree on our definition of the word "people." I believe that 80 - 90% of the human population is actually a more primitive being that simply mirrors our appearance (see "Scooter").

I've had zero exchanges with Scooter in this place, but I kind of like his edge. I wouldn't want to be on his bad side.

Last night’s horrific execution-style shootings of 12 Dallas law enforcement officers – five of whom were killed and seven wounded- is an attack on our country. It is a coordinated, premeditated assault on the men and women who keep us safe.
We must restore law and order. We must restore the confidence of our people to be safe and secure in their homes and on the street.
The senseless, tragic deaths of two motorists in Louisiana and Minnesota reminds us how much more needs to be done.
This morning I offer my thoughts and prayers for all of the victims’ families, and we pray for our brave police officers and first responders who risk their lives to protect us every single day.
Our nation has become too divided. Too MANY Americans feel like they’ve lost hope. Crime is harming too MANY citizens. Racial tensions have gotten worse, not better. This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children.
This is a time, perhaps more than ever, for strong leadership, love and compassion. We will pull through these tragedies.
