Its an easy move, he isn't a great player and its an good PR move. Seattle is a pretty liberal city, have to play to your audience.

True, but it's also disingenuous for those reasons. If he was a great player and they were in a divisional chase, it wouldn't happen. I realize that's true of all professional sports teams.

I understand why they did it but that doesn't change the nomination. He gave his opinion and he posted nothing worthy of a suspension. Liberals should be outraged too.

Its the opposite of the CK thing. I'm sure off the record the 49ers would have loved to just cut him and not deal with the headache but they know it would be a terrible move from a PR perspective so they will just deal with it and when it all blows over he will be gone.

The players union can't let this happen without a huge fight.

I like how ESPN worded it on the bottom line. Clevenger suspended without pay for INSENSITIVE TWEETS.

I think most on here disagree with what he said.

However, what is the basis of the suspension? He didn't break any laws. He didn't cause any physical harm. He wasn't working when the tweets were sent. They didn't call for any violence.

It's just crazy.

Maybe he's a pain in the ass behind the scenes or in the locker room and this was a convenient way for all parties to part ways?

Maybe, but I agree that the union should fight this. They're essentially saying "you can't voice controversial opinions in public or you'll be suspended."

Yeah, as a union you have to defend his rights to speak his mind regardless of what he says.

Rizzo and Bryant suspended for remainder of season for "Grandpa Rossy" instagram account created for retiring catcher David Ross.

I'm fine with the suspension. You're representing a very popular public organization. There are certain things you cannot say publicly and certain ways you must act.

You all should be more outraged with the Yankees' and whatever team Mattingly manages' policy of no facial hair / long hair.

I don't agree with his statement. He has the right to say whatever he wants. I don't care about his suspension, considering I haven't given a shit about Seattle baseball since Ichiro got traded. I agree that the Organ-eye-zation has every right to punish him.

And fuck that no facial hair rule.

I don't care about him; I just think about the precedent.

What if someone here made comments to DiCaro and she turned around and got that person canned? Everyone says stupid stuff sometimes, and with people like her, it doesn't even have to be stupid... and then to lose your job??? That's no gouda.

I always loved the Oakland philosophy.....you can look however the hell you want at any level in our organization.....as long as you produce. I think only Mattingly does the clean face, hair above the collar bullshit in the majors....along with the Yankees of course. In the minors damn near everyone has a rule. Gotta show some sock...no bell bottoms. No hair below the lip. no hair longer than 2 inches below your hat.

I loved when James Russell or Schlithouse or heavily bearded shitty pitcher on the cubs got optioned back to AAA and had to shave.

I get where you are coming from. At the same time, I think there are different standards held for public and private individuals.

I think if someone like Dicaro tried to call my HR department to whine that "Boyd tells me on Twitter that I suck at my job", they would laugh at her and hang up. It might get mentioned to me, but I don't see anything coming of it. Then again, I sell conveyor chain. No one really gives a shit about me or my opinions.

Exactly. You can not set this precedent. There are like 10 days left to the season. Appeal it and give him his 10 days worth of pay back in the off season sometime.

The best thing that could have happened IMO is for him to have to go there and face all of his teammates . That could have been a valuable learning experience for him and all of them. Its quite easy to comment on stuff from the outside and by yourself on a phone or computer. If you discuss these feelings with real people who have different feelings it might just be an educational experience for all.

Using trump as the barometer.... He didn't saw anything that probably 30-40%of America didn't agree with behind closed doors.

If it stands, who becomes the moral arbitrator for determining offense.

I see it the same as marriage equality. Gay marriage is illegal in many states, yet I could be fired for supporting an insensitive statement.

I support both balcks and gay marriage. But see this as a frightening precident.

I agree, but I think people are keying on the "like animals" thing. Or at least focusing on that rationale to disguise their distaste for the disagreement with the BLM movement Clevenger displayed.

Didn't Adam Jones call baseball a "white man's game" recently? Is he suspended?

That is merely the line of best fit, he was suspended for saying something disagreeable that many loud voices disagreed with, the rules he ostensibly violated aren't applied everywhere equally.

It all depends on the contract. Most professional contracts, I think, have some type of character clause in it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this suspension if that's the case. I'd say the same thing if it was Kaepernick getting suspended. You have a right to free speech. You don't have a right from consequence to that speech.
