The real problem is that everyone follows too close and they constantly want to change lanes. There's no reason why anyone should be braking on an expressway if they're using a safe following distance. Just leave the proper amount of car lengths in between like you learned in driver's ed. But that doesn't work because as soon as you do that some asshole will lane change in front of you. How much faster do you get to your destination by riding an inch from the guy in front's bumper? It's idiotic. I think people watch too much NASCAR.

I drive the expressway every day. A vast majority of people know what they are doing. The worst offenders are those who drive slowly in the left lane. It creates chaos as people work to get around them. How many times have you come up on someone....they never move to the right, even with opportunity....then you go around them, passing on the right, and as soon as you get in front of them....they then move to the right lane? Fucking idiots. Nomination accepted.

The worst are the people that speed up in the left lane when you start to pass them.

Couldn't agree more with whoever said it's a breakdown in our society. God does it piss me off. I want to be deputized so I can pull over these idiots. We take 355 South a lot to see my wife's family, and if you're not doing 80-90 mph, you're not trying. But it never ceases to amaze me seeing idiots tootling around in the left lane at the speed limit. Even as I approach, it's 50/50 whether they move to the middle lane. I give them the nod of disapproval as I pass their stupid ass. With how crazy people are, I refrain from flipping them off, as you never know who's unhinged and who isn't. When it comes to driving slow in the left lane on the expressway, my wife would say I'm unhinged. Guilty as charged, but I at least know I'm not going to do something stupid.

I get enraged when I'm in the left lane and keeping pace with the guy in front of me and the guy behind me is riding my ass. Where are you trying to go? There are 15 cars ahead of me and we are all going the same speed. Just sit down, relax and strap it in.

Here, we have two things: "being in the left lane" and "tailgating". One of them is inherently dangerous and at highway speeds can cause deadly crashes. The other is being in a fucking lane on the road.

The left lane is for passing. That is part of the rules of the road too.

Also, "brake checking" is actually capable of causing a crash too when it otherwise would not. So, you are wrong twice.

I believe only in Illinois, where a governor who is now in prison passed such a silly law. If you really believe that the left lane is for passing, you're endorsing speeding, aren't you? How can you pass a guy going the speed limit without breaking the law? I believe only in moral passing.

The left lane is for passing but at 8-10 mph over the speed limit. The cocksuckers that need to go 25-30 mph over are far more dangerous than someone being stupid and slow in the left lane. I could be going 10 over in the left land and passing cars and trucks that are in the middle lanes when some asshole comes up out of nowhere going mach 3 and just blasts it 2 lanes to the right and around everyone.

Most states enforce their speed limits within reason. You would think that a state with no money would take the easy money from people driving 30 over......but no.

I'm still trying to get my head around this. This is actually the problem. Every asshole on the road thinks that whatever he is doing is the right thing. (Really, that's how it is in all facets of life, but you can see it clearly on the road.) The guy who is going the speed limit in the left lane is an asswipe. But the guy who wants to go 90 in the left lane is an asswipe too. I drive 10-15 over and I'm just right. It's like the fucking Three Bears!
