Go away. I do not recal Cub fandom acting like this in 2005. At best you got from us was a collective shoulder shrug and a whatever brah.

I don't remember what Cubs fans were saying. I wasn't listening.

The White Sox won the World Series. The Cubs have not accomplished that yet. Maybe they will, and maybe they wont. But as Peeps said there were MANY Cubs fans rooting against the Sox in 2005. This whole "be happy for Chicago" nonsense is a recent phenomena.

For many Cubs fans that I have spoken to about whether or not they watched that World Series, it was just another opportunity to trot out the "I really don't think about the White Sox at all; I'm not against them, I just don't think about them" argument.

That's not true chas. MANY radio stations played don't "Don't Stop Believin' " and the city was excited. It was the 1st World Series in Chicago since 1959.

I rooted for the White Sox and shot fireworks in our backyard when they won. Now of course, had the board existed and I participated several years before 2005 then I probably would've rooted for Astros to win.

This board has a way of changing your stance on things :D

I really hated the Sox when I was younger because most of my friends were Sox fans and that's just what we did.

By 2005, I was trying to play it cool like I didn't care but in Game 4 of the World Series when it became clear that the Sox were going to win it all, it hurt. Deep down it drove me nuts that they won it all before the Cubs did.

At this point in my life my "I don't care about the Sox" as far as if they win or lose attitude is genuine.

I don't hate the White Sox but just because I don't root for them to lose doesn't mean I'll ever root for them to win. I'll tune into a Sox game here and there when nothing else is on because I love baseball, nothing more.

The whole "be happy for Chicago" attitude is lame. Pick a team.

I'm not happy for the Cubs.

I'm happy for some of their fans.

MANY of them, however, can die in a fire.

CHAS + SUBLIMINABLE MESSAGES + HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT = ILLUMINATI OPERATIVE FOR SURE!!!!! MATCH!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

seriously, when we had that [legitimately not cool] foray into chas' "personal life" regarding that website with escorts or whatever, did anyone do their homework to see if the page was legit and not some kind of alphabet soup nazi thing akin to [the now oddly shut down] toddandclare.com?

even in the subject of this post, "WhitweSox fanbase" Whit we Sox? hmmmm. clearly this has to be some high/next level shit here, so i went to my trusty internet anagram server and discovered that "WhitweSox fanbase" is O.B.VIOUSLY an anagram for "Newbies: What's a fox?" which would likely hearken another anagram being the answer, i'm thinking it's probably "We Fix A Absent Show" (which, comeon, THIS message being posted exactly 1 day before terry boers returns from being "absent" to "fix a show" ???? TOO MUCH COINCIDENCE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SACRED GEOMETRIA HAS FOX = 666 = SATAN = THE CUBS ARE IN THE WORLD SERIES FFS, ARMAGEDDON IS NIGH.... RAPTURE IMMINENT! THIS IS IT GUYS! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

SERIOUSLY, THIS IS ALSO AN ANAGRAM FOR "WAX OAF SHIT BE NEWS!" FFS!!! so that's right, sometime soon some big oaf (maybe someone like kyle schwarber?) is going to hit some kind of world-series-winning HR to forever immortalize his legendary status, leading to a future wax statue of babe fucking schwarber, and thus fulfilling chas' prophecy of "WAX OAF SHIT BE NEWS!"

TLDR = you herd it here first: through brilliantly encoded language (for people with minds to think) chas has boldly proclaimed that the cubs are going to win the world series on a kyle "babe fucking ruth" schwarber HR, which will lead to the big oaf forever being immortalized in the form of a wax statue somewhere.... and he timestamped his predictions by referencing the return of terry boers? i hope you guys are someday wiling to recognize the transcendental greatness of chas' contributions here, because he wields his meticulously-crafted "underestimated" persona here as a veritable scythe of righteousness that allows him to indelibly slice some REAL SHIT into the very fabric of reality...

...either that or he just got pretty sauced and couldn't type out "Whitesox fanbase" without fucking it up pretty hilariously; it's definitely one of the 2. and you know i've been seeing that # around lately, assuming that 2 = god's 2nd favorite angel = lucifer = satan = illuminati = the # of world championships the cubs have won in the last 108 years + SATAN HIMSELF = 2 again! it takes two to tango, and you know that if you add up the values of tango (13 + 36 + 19 + 4 + 18) you inexorably come up with.... </youtube video that you're better for not watching>

I actually was rooting for them in 2005. Have several good friends who are Sox fans. I was happy for a Chicago baseball team to win it all. But the cocky ass nature of the we are better than you because we won it wore thin quickly. The dumb fucks thought several more were coming soon and it fell apart as quickly as it started. That is why I give less than a care about the Sox now.

Come on man that is just dumb. Just because most here were not on this message board back then does not mean there was any less hate towards the Sox and their run.

I grew up hating the Sox because my brother liked them.

But as I have gotten older I have gotten away from that, and want to see Chicago have as much success as possible in all sports. I was happy for most Sox fans in 2005. And I have long hoped for a Cubs and Sox World Series

Post subject:  Re: WhitweSox fanbase

i was raised in a household that saw cubs + sox = 2 chances to win every year, so there wasn't ever any sort of preference mandated in any given year, outside of who was doing better and therefore more likely to make the playoffs, of course. you know, 1993-94/2000/2005 = my nuclear family probably came off as "sox fans" more than "cubs fans", however that script would be totally flipped in the years 1984, 1989, 1998, 2001, 2003, etc etc.

outside of my immediate family, all of the "baseball people" in the family were/are cubs fans, so i reckon in the big picture there was always more "WOO CUBBIES!" present than "GO GO WHITE SOX!" but at the end of the day, really, i was raised to pull for any team that was on TV all of the time and would have "CHICAGO" across their chests when they left town....

...except for the blackhawks, cuz outside of the baseball uncle technically being a bigtime hockey guy, yeah, nobody gives a shit about hockey.

As a Cub's fan, I respect the Sox fans that are holding true their hatred of all things Cub. Face it, if the Cubs win the WS, the only legitimate argument they've held over Cubs fans over the past 11 years will be gone.

What pisses me off are the Sox fans that are now becoming "lukewarm" in their disdain for the Cubs. There are two formerly dedicated Sox guys in my neighborhood that I have had many spirited discussions with over the years, even as their "WS Champion" tee shirts have faded from jet-black to charcoal grey.

Now, one of these guys is claiming "he was never that guy," so he's rooting for "Chicago." The other guy is getting pushed to the Cubs because his two grade-school aged sons don't remember the Sox winning, so they are all about the Cubs now. Instead of standing his ground, he told me, "we like both teams." That's BS based on our previous discussions.

He doesn't want his boys missing out on the fun of a potential championship--11 years is not a long time for most of us (think of the vivid memory of the '85 Bears in that regard), but to a 10 year old, it might as well have happened during the Civil War. In any case, both of his sons are sporting brand new Cubs tee shirts, so this guy just caved.

Or they suffer serious mental impairments rendering them unable to enjoy a World Series win.
