"Basic Economy": They wrap it up in the guise of "consumer options". Just another fee thrown at the traveler. Where does it stop?? http://gizmodo.com/united-airlines-will-start-charging-for-use-of-overhead-1789781785 |

This is not the airlines fault. This is the fault of the millions of airline passengers who will buy the cheapest fare no matter what. They have created a huge market for airlines in a race to capitalize on passengers who are willing to save $15 for as much inconvenience that can be thrown at them. Personally, I am loving the tiered system of travel that is developing. I can make sure I get more leg room and other benefits for less than the price you would have paid for a ticket 20 years ago adjusting for inflation. |

That really is a thing huh? Encourage all the carry on by charging for checking bags and then later charge for that. That really is a classic fuck you. And Brick, the great defender of people not getting a living wage, will have his higher tier also charged soon enough if this floated policy survives. That is not my favorite business fuck you of all time. Mine is the banking atm card fraud. They give away all these new fangled atm card and encourage use. They do it like crack dealers getting you hooked on them and then come the use fees and the double fees and all that. Then top it off with a pay to use a teller to do something with your own money. |

I'm pointing out that it was consumers that drove changes like this because the only thing they care about is getting the lowest price no matter what the cost is. It has nothing to do with a "living wage for working 40 hours in a week" either. |

Just picked up first class round trip tickets on United to Aspen in January for $750 total. Could've sat with the peasants for $450. Nomination rejected. |

They should make you check every piece of "luggage" you are travelling with. Fuck those people who try to cram some big monstrosity into the overhead bin. Carry-on luggage should be coats, briefcases/backpacks for men, or Purses for women. That's it. |

This is for all the assholes who bring their big bags on and try to stuff them into the compartments. |

This is something I expected from Spirit, the airline that wouldn't wipe its feet on its customers without charging them for the privilege. I thought United was an airline that you paid more for so as not to be encumbered with this nonsense. If you want assholes to stop cramming oversized carry-on bags into the overhead bins and standing in the aisles like lost children when you land, let people check their bags for free so they can disembark in an orderly fashion and pick up their bags somewhere less cramped than inside a metal tube. |

I dont fly as often as I used to. I just wish pricing was a bit more transparent. The airlines have created this in their race for the bottom so to speak. That said...I'm like Shakes...I spend the extra dough or use miles to get into first class. |

Well he is for United being a Walmart of the skies. Move everything to cheap and discounted for the lowest common consumer. Normally he hates Walmart. |

This is exactly it. I have been flying a lot for more than 30 years. I used to purposely check my bag to not fight with what I call the "important people" that absolutely had to have all their shit with them carrying on. Usually these were sales assholes dressed as Jorr would like. Then arrived the leisure folks with all the baby shit etc. I got on and off in comfort and never lost a bag as Chicago to anywhere was generally no connection. Once they charged for checking luggage I said screw off I'll carry on and battle. So people like me along with others escaping charges for financial reasons you had chaos in the aisles. Now they will create a fee to combat the shit they created with their fee. |
