and blast everyone with hold music.

In NS_Dan's America, they would be fired on the spot and then executed.

We have/had a rolling thread about conference calls, yeah? MANY of them are a complete waste of time. I would say that 75% of the ones I have been on were pretty worthless, and could have been explained just as easily and a hellava lot quicker in an email.

I'm on a sweet Office 365 training call and about every 5 minutes someone puts us on hold to take another call and we get my company's bumper hold music/sales pitch.

Despite the VP repeatedly saying if you have to take a call, hop off and attend a later training.

I work with morons (i.e retards) and the answer to this question is 'no.' Even hearing 75% of a call would be an improvement.

And a corollary nomination to hosts that wait 10 minutes to start. If people are not on time, TOO BAD.

Correct. Start on time, stay on time, stop on time. Have some fucking respect for other people's schedules.

I also love when they say "Oh we really need Bill on the line... let's wait a couple of minutes." Three minutes of casual banter and then, "OK, does anyone know where Bill is? We really need him. Let's give him two more minutes and then we have to start." Two more minutes, no Bill. "OK, let's get started, so let me summarize where we are at..." A five minute summary, then a beep. "Sorry, this is Bill, my previous meeting ran long." "Oh thanks for joining, really glad you could make it. I was just summarizing things, let me recap it for you..." Five minutes repeating everything we heard five minutes before.
