Post subject:  Gas Cans

To make a long story short, I moved into a house this winter. Having lived in either apartments, condos, or townhouses since college, I haven't had to deal with the usual home maintenance since I lived at home with my folks nearly 20 years ago. I had to buy a new lawnmower and a gas can along with it. What the fuck is the deal with newer gas cans? They all have these ridiculous safety latches that makes pouring gas out of them nearly impossible. I spilled nearly the same amount of gas on my driveway that I put in the damn lawnmower tank. Thinking I just bought a shitty gas can, I went back to the store and realized that ALL gas cans are made this way now.

I just spent the last 30 mins dismantling the safety latch and nearly breaking the nozzle so I can pour gas like a normal human being in the future.

Thanks Obama.

Happened to me one Sunday afternoon. Sitting in the front room and hearing noises coming from the bathroom. The shower stall has about 1" of dirty water in it and is growing. Start the bucket brigade taking water from the shower and dumping it in the utility sink. This having no effect, I took the water and went outside to the storm drain and dumped it... we were about an inch from overflowing the shower. Get the plumber out, he examines. Hookup to the sewer main and sheared off. Literally nowhere for anything to exit. He cleaned it out enough that liquids would go through, said I can come back out here in three days and fix it. Tell the family to try to poop at stores and friend's houses.

I do the same thing. Too much alignment and locking of things. Just give me a plain nozzle.

They're fucking ridiculous. I have some of thise old tin ones because the new ones are ridiculous.

Plus they only work to ensure that the brilliant kids drink gasoline. The dumb ones can't get it open. It's like reverse Darwinism.

(.8 imperial gallons). Not that there is anything wrong with them.

I'm just going to say this is why we need government out of our fucking lives.

I still have one of the old gas cans and I'm never replacing it

Trump may be a moron, but if his EPA can roll back the standards, I'd be 100% OK with that. Deregulation may be the only good thing he does outside of nominating Gorsuch.

Buy a funnel and pour the gas into the mower that way. I didn't even bother to learn how to use the new safety spout on the gas can. I just take the piece off and pour directly into the funnel.

Yes, that is ultimately what I did the first time. I was pouring from a full 5 gallon can, so it was nearly impossibly to pour without spilling everywhere. Which is why I'm bitching about these things.

I understand why they want safety precautions to prevent spilling, but these new safety features make it nearly impossible to dispense gas from a can. Then people just take the nozzle off completely and end up spilling more gas. It's ridiculous.

I'm not so sure all these regulations are just meant to prevent spilling. I think it's more so meant to prevent Vapors from escaping because idiot drivers drive to the gas station, fill the can, then drive home with the fumes filling the car. Then they pass out from the fumes or whatever and cause an accident.

So basicaly, people are idiots.

I've mastered the safety latch. My issue is that they lack an air release, so the gas "chugs" out of the can. Spilling guaranteed.

Is gasoline vapor something that can make someone pass out? Serious question.
