Post subject:  (Sigh) The cops... again

So I'm up in the northern burbs with my team because of the storms and flooding... and I chose to stay at a different hotel so I have plausible deniability when one of them spray paints their room...

Anyway, I did some work in my room tonight and couldn't fall asleep, so I drove and got some ice cream. I came back and parked in my hotel parking lot to listen to some Les and eat my cone.

After a couple minutes, a cop pulls up behind me while I'm chilling in my company car. He has his lights on. He gets out and shines his flashlight all over my car and asks me to roll down my window. I comply.

He proceeds to ask me for my license. I asked why. He says they're just checking for drugs in the area. I told him that I obviously didn't have drugs in my car and was just eating ice cream.

He then said that may be true but he needed my license to make sure I had no "priors." I told him no, which seemed to shock him. He then asked for my license again and said it would only take a minute. I again said no.

He then went back to his car for a few minutes and came back. He told me that since I was just eating ice cream, it was fine and to have a good night. He then left.

Is this what we pay these assholes for?

First Did Not Happen.

Second if I could eat my cone why leave the room?

Lastly, I wonder if he just saw you driving by or someone called. If there is a large problem in that are they might try to threaten stupid loitering charges like this. Sad.

Maybe. I hadn't been parked for more than 1 or 2 minutes.

It probably seemed like a bigger deal at the time because it scared the shit out of me. All the sudden, there's a huge light shining all thru my car and a cop yelling at me to roll down my window. I was startled as hell.

Good thing he didn't see me jerking off.

Yeah it is always a startling experience when the man comes up on you. Even when you have done nothing. I guess that is part of the apprehension the young people of color feel today.

Which wonderful Northern Suburb was this? Either way, it's dangerously close to my house, but if you're still there around 6 tonight, feel free to swing by for beer

That's just wrong. Just listen and obey and you'll be fine. If you mess around with law enforcement then you deserve the consequences. Social justice obsessed people will have you believe that all police are evil for protecting the streets and saving your life. All these stories about innocents dying after confronting the police are just for ratings. In every one of those cases you'll see the person who died was armed or on drugs or had done shady things. If they listened then they would of been fine.

Unless he was staying a low end motel, this makes no sense. It is not the police job to harass people.

i was out for a walk (i usually run but pulled a calf muscle but still needed the excercise) i'm listening to the cubs game on my headphones, its the playoffs and it was late innings and its getting really good (i can't remember the specifics). so to concentrate on the game, i stop and sit on the benches outside our little library (i live outside a rural village with about 600 people) its fall so i've got a hoodie on. of course while i'm sitting there a county sheriff car pulls up and gets out and he's asking me all sorts of questions, and i'm like, i'm just out for my evening jog and listening to the cubs game officer. well apparently there has been some library vandalism (bullshit, my wife is at the library daily with the kiddos [homeschool] and knows all the people who run it) so i tell him that thats weird, i hadn't heard about any vandalism, while the game is still freaking going on he asks if i would remove my headphones, i'm like i'm listening to the damn cubs playoff game dude. he asked for my ID and i told him i'm jogging, i have no id on me and i'm not sure i'm required to give it up in the first place. I was like, i know you are just doing your job but i'm not doing anything illegal unless sitting on this bench 2 feet from the sidewalk is trespassing.

i was very cordial but he could tell a bit perturbed but i get it too. its like almost 10:30-11:00 or so and some hooded duded is sitting on a bench whatever. i'd probably be curious too. but when he asked me for my ID when he could obviously tell i'm just a dude wearing jogging clothes listening to headphones on a crisp cool evening. i thought that was an overstep.

Good for you.

That's how you treat a misbehavin' public servant

Parking is a crime these days. Ive had cops come up to me a couple times in similar situations. I get it, it does look suspicious, but its annoying.

These stories are the embodiment of white privilege. If a black dude told a cop he wasn't giving ID he would be dragged from the car and multiple units and K9 squads would have shown up.

Chapelle's bit on being pulled over with a white friend driving and how the white guy acted completely chill was brilliant.

Yeah that was well done. Also, I'm not saying it to insult Leash or hnd. It's just a mindset that we can afford to have. We can remember that cops work FOR us. A black guy a night in his car doesn't get the same leniency. It's pretty shitty.

And we don't stress
No glock 9 goin thru our chests
No ID for the City’s best
No resemblance from the recent theft
No need for no Kevlar vest
Can't shoot me or check my tire treads
My skin tone says be on your best
Behavior or your sergeant’s desk
Get filled up with my lawyers threats

I agree, Hank, and it crossed my mind afterward.

I think if it hadn't startled me so badly, I would have just given him my license. But I was startled and defensive and pissed, so my first reaction was to tell him no. But we have that luxury and others don't.

On a side note, the cop looked like he was probably 25 years old so that may have had an impact.

Bob, it was roughly 1:00.

This is an awful and crazy thought. Being able to respect and listen to cops is white privilege? Talking back to cops and not obeying, and then facing consequences, is racism? There is no such thing as privilege and culture is going the opposite way. Minorities are waging war against established traditions and a bunch of useful idiots are helping that agenda. i can't even get five seconds into my thoughts before someone is yelling racist! or homophobe! Its ridiculous.

Many Cops are jags.

Warrenville, finished eating lunch at the park like everyday, not near playground or others. 2 Warrenville Johnnies appear and 1 decides to start asking me 20 fucking questions. Answered a few until the jag cops partner was like wtf are we bothering this guy for and they finally moved on, was about to tell the nosey cop to fuck off. Pigs need to check themselves & leave folks alone.
