Seriously, 450+ people injured just for trying to vote. I will say once again, it's a damn shame they don't have the 2nd Amendment as the pigs in uniform can beat people with impunity when there is no risk of someone fighting back with a more powerful tool. |

To be fair, we fought a civil war over secession. Plenty of Americans died. |

Was in Barcelona a couple weeks ago. Great food, great city; great people. Saw MANY "si" and Catalonia flags in support of independence. But the MANY we talked to weren't sure what the outcome of all this was going to be. |

I'm kind of surprised they brought in the police to bust up the polls. Apparently their constitution requires the entire country to vote on any secession (kind of like if Texas wanted to break away from the US, or Palatine withdraw from Cook County), so all they had to do is let the vote take place and then declare it invalid. Not saying that would end the fight, but this police action didn't accomplish much other than to embolden the Catalans even more. |

Shocker, the EU is endorsing the beating of voters. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... olice.html Britain made the correct call in leaving that awful union. The EU will sound hilariously hypocritical when they call for others to embrace Democracy. I hope this movement stays alive as some Spanish tyrants need an awakening. |

Idiotic. Just completely stupid. Catalonia is not self sufficient, this is going to cause a ton of suffering and economic hardship not just for these people, but Spain at large. |

So Catalonia is going to lose it's regional autonomy it looks like. Basques learned playing nice with Madrid gives you at least half of what you want. Not playing nice gets you nothing. Madrid will make sure they never get into EU or Schengen. They'll be alone in the dark, and as a tourism based economy that's a bad place to be. |

America wrote: Say goodbye to Catalonia's regional autonomy. and in the end this will work about as well as when the British installed Thomas Gage as governor of Massachusetts. That one really kept the colonies under their thumb. Instead of migrants, don't be shocked when smugglers start sending small arms across the Med. This is going to destroy the EU's credibility in any future case when they want to sanction any countries over failure to uphold Democracy. |

Some smaller EU member-states are starting to raise questions over the EU's silence as Spain suspends Democracy. |

It's not about Catalonia, it's about Corsica, Basque Country, Bretagne, south Tyrol, Belgium, etc. |
