If your state motto is going to be "Crossroads of America" then maybe have roads that fucking work. An orange cone is supposed to be temporary. I've see the same fucking cone sitting in the same fucking spot closing the same fucking lane for 4 years now.

Stupid Indiana.

I truly do hate driving to Chicago due to the clusterfuck trying to get into Illinois on 94 after getting off the toll road.

Didn't they give their road contract to some shit company from the middle east? Its been awful ever since they made that move. I think there is 1 functioning rest stop now.

I-65 always seem to have stretches that are under construction.

Yes. Last week I was driving home on 65 at about 5 in the morning. I'm old and I don't see as well while driving at night as I once did. Of course there was construction everywhere. I was trying to obey the construction zone speed limits which fluctuated between 55 and 35 but when I did there would be a truck driving right up my ass. Suddenly, I saw a row of flashing lights like a miniature flying saucer moving between the cones and barrels. I was like, what the fuck? I slowed down and got a little closer and saw that it was a guy wearing a helmet that had a row of flashing lights on it and he was situating the barrels in the dark. Fucking dangerous.

I use 65 quite a bit and it's usually a pleasure (though never in rush hour)

I haven't been to Indianapolis in a couple years but yes, I-65 was torn up then, too.

Last year I was coming back from Indianapolis and a huge chunk coming north was closed. There was a crazy detour.

Post subject:  Re: Indiana

I can't count how many times I-65 was down to one lane at night (non rush hour), and we would sit in miles of delays even though the road is not particularly crowded. For a five year stretch, I think it happened on every trip to Cincy and Louisville. I never recall having that happen to me even once on I-57.

Well I'm glad it wasn't just my imagination. Oh and BTW, if it wasn't obvious, I second the nomination of KW.

Are we really casting aspersions at Indiana roads when we live in a state that can't pay for roadwork completed two years ago? Though, I do agree the 80/94 stretch between the border and Michigan City is absolute crap. Everyone needs to take a lesson from Wisconsin. They now how to get a road up quickly.

Illinois' state motto doesn't brag about quality transportation.

PREACH

No major interstate in Indiana is ever NOT under construction. 80/94 has been fucked up all spring and summer and I don't think they've even done anything. Literally, I don't see any new roadway/exit/bridge etc. I think they just get money and figure they have to spend it and they throw temp barriers up for shits and grins.

65 sucks but the plan is to widen it to 3 lanes each way from Indy to NWI. The area around Lafayette and just south of Crown Point is going on now. When its done in 72yrs I think it should help to stop all the one lane traffic whenever there is a minor accident.

The toll road pisses me off because they finally decided to update the rest areas (much needed) but they are doing them all at one time. There is a stop right when you get on in Portage and then not another stop until Elkhart. If you get on low on gas, get ready to exit and pay twice. Fucking dumb.

The interstates aren't the only thing either. The main arteries around NWI are nightmares to get around. 30 and 41 are fucking non-stop traffic lights and god forbid there is any construction on those and then all the back streets turn into fucking racetracks.

Oh, and I didn't even mention how they are connecting I69 up to Indy by way of SR37. That's the way to get to Bloomington and its been fucked for years now.

I-69 is eventually supposed to span the entire N-S US. Who knows when that will be done

I drove up from Indy on I-65 last Tuesday, and it wasn't too bad then, but it's usually a quagmire. If I have to go to Indy anywhere near rush hour, I will gladly add the miles and drive the back roads down to I-74, and cut over.

Yea I drove to Louisville a few weeks ago for the first time ever.

I thought 96% of the entire state was under construction. I'd go through like a 10 mile stretch, see the "end construction" sign and think whew....only to see it start again like 2 miles later

Yes. Don't understand how Indiana doesn't realize the priority of 80/94 and 70. Those are the 2 main roads people take to exit your state as fast as possible. Get them right ASAP.

There are a lot of states who still have those puritan laws, but I think most have at least been relaxed a little bit.

As to Indiana specifically, I'm sure the progressive and forward-thinking Mike Pence did a lot to roll them back.
