So he saved the game on defense, and killed a ball that happened to go right at a defender...but DB?

Denied.

Can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag.
For his money we can find a guy who makes a catch or two.
You pay for hits. Not catches.

No one ever got paid to make a catch in the outfield.

Neither of us pays his salary, and his salary prevented no moves. I'll take Heyward in RF in tight games like this any time.

I’ll take Bryce Harper in RF at all times. And I hope I don’t come across an article a year from now stating the Cubs couldn’t afford Harper because of their money invested in their current RF who’s benched often in regular season + playoff games who’s owed $20 million each of the next 6 years.

I agree. When they signed him,I tried to raise the argument that he is better than Chris Coughlan but about 74 million better? The Cubs could have signed 2-4 more guys to plug up holes instead of this smooth talking thief. He makes the Soriano signing look like gold. Alphonso actually got better as the contract got older.

Jimmy, I'm not sure if you heard but the Cubs resigned Coughlan.

You guys were told by Bernsie and such that this or Lester's contracts would not stop future signings because waves of revenue etc. I did not believe that then and I don’t now.

Yep! They'll also structure his $40M a year contract in a way that makes financial sense.

Can you ever express a thought without invoking the name Dan Bernstein?

Mike Trout is probably regretting signing that extension

I wonder if they are exploring ways to dump his contract to get Harper signed next year. His defense is worth what 5M per year so they'd have to eat the rest.

They got their monies worth (THE SPEECH) but he needs to move on if he continues to flounder at the plate. Clearly they need to upgrade the offense and Harper seems to thrive in the national spotlight.

Post subject:  Re: Jason Heyward

Just have to eat it, bat him 8th and give him 300 ab a year..late inning defensive replacement. Id rather sign Machado to play 3rd n move kris to LF and trade Schwarber plus Happ or Almora for pitching.

I'm kind of leaning to Machado over Harper also.

Based on what?

Obviously both of them are great players and both would help the team. But I am completely in the Harper camp.

Similar batters through the age of 24:

Harper has 3 HOFers on the list: Frank Robinson, Hank Aaron, and Griffey Jr. Plus Miggy and Trout.

Machado has 1 HOFer on the list: Ron Santo

Yeah I think Harper is a no brainer unless you can convince the Angels to trade the best player in baseball. I would take back Pujols in order to get Trout.
