It's an expression people use instead of swearing.

If I'm still around, I will enjoy it when the people who are offended by things like this are accused of some sort of "-ism" for saying things that are no longer "OK" in 2038 or whenever.

I don't know the guy's history but being raised by country folks I've heard this saying since birth. I imagine most in the south has as well. This is an overreaction.
