Allegedly fired Chris Bosio because he was telling another coach about the nickname of "spider monkey" he gave to a white player, and a black clubhouse attendant overheard it and got upset. Bosio admitted saying "spider monkey" to the powers that be, and was fired. Can someone not even say "monkey" if a black person is in ear shot, now? Fucking Christ. |

I'm with you...if he's telling the truth, the Tigers should be crucified. BUT, initial reporting doesn't seem to support Bosio's assertion that the white guy's nickname was known as "spider monkey." AND, some of Bosio's comments are odd ("I didn't use the N-word"...well, no one said you did). I'm going to wait a while longer to see what else comes out before forming an opinion. |

Yes, this is all off Bosio's word, but keep in mind that the Tigers are now being told by their lawyers to defend against potential wrongful termination suits. It's also possible that professional baseball teams have inside jokes that nobody in the media will ever hear about. |

It means Kirkwood should be fired as well then. |

HA! Lar was hinting on Twitter that there may have been similar issues with the Cubs. Now the truth that it was a white player. |

Why use that as an explanation when all it takes is 2 seconds to ask the player if that’s his nickname . Something isn’t right with this . |

No idea who is lying but it appears Bosio is having a panic reaction to being fired for this. He would be done in baseball forever for a racial slur likely, right? |

The Cubs had several black guys on their team while he was here, including a black pitcher. I’d like to hear from CJ and J Hey. The fact that they haven’t jumped out to defend him may speak volumes. |

On the flip side, if I heard someone say ‘spider monkey’ about someone...the first thing that comes to mind is Will Ferrell not racism. |

sometimes people have nicknames they themselves aren't even aware of. "Spider Monkey" might be what they call him and he may not realize it. I worked with a guy once who everyone called "Frankenberry" but nobody every called him Frankenberry to his face to my knowledge. To me, the only person who can clear this up for Bosio is the person or people he was talking to when referring to the player as "Spider Monkey". |

Bob Nightengale Verified account @BNightengale Jun 27 More The insensitive comment that prompted Chris Bosio’s dismissal was made towards a #Tigers employee, GM Al Avila says So, Bosio definitely called someone a Spider Monkey. There were two people there. A black clubhouse worker and a white pitcher who denies that he's ever been called that. Hmmm.... |

So, for you, Bosio just has to find one person who doesnt want him fired and they say "oh yea, we call that pitcher spider monkey all the time!" |

Is it easier to believe that an mlb lifer who has been around black players his whole life chooses this moment in this social climate to call a black person a monkey thereby torpedoing any chance of ever working in MLB again? |

There are really only four possibilities here. -Whether the player knows it or not, the nickname of Spider Monkey is legit -Bosio absolutely made a racist comment -The clubhouse attendant overreacted and reported something that was untrue -The Tigers are lying I guess, at this point, all four of these seem plausible. |

If one were to make a racist comment like that to a black person wouldn't it be a form of primate other than a spider monkey? That specific monkey seems an odd choice. Being a poster here saying Planet of the Apes is more off putting to me I would think. |

Your bending this into a certain point. Its very simple. Im sure Bosio thought the worker didnt hear it or would take it in jest or didnt have the power to do anything about it. |

No, but finding someone to corroborate the existence of that nickname would be a necessary first step towards supporting his story. |
