Sucks. Just recently got this. Like the past 2 months off and on. Some days i can. A lot of days I can't. I can't sleep. 4 hours of sleep last night. So I figured, cool, I'll be tired early today. Nope. I'M NOT TIRED. And it was a long day today. Helping my family with shit.

Fuck.

The only time I can go to sleep recently is when I'm drunk. And I didn't have time to do that today. But they say drunk sleep is not real sleep. That it's just you passing out. Whatever. I don't care. I'm cracking my first beer right now. Hoping that 3 will put me out. In the mean time, entertain me with shit. I've done that for all of you for years. Come up with some great new thread topic to where I can comment on. GO, MUTHERFUCKERS!!!!

In the meantime, I'm watching GODFATHER.

Stop drinking and take some ZZZQuil. Don't mix them.

Good stuff.

I'm gonna do that if this continues. But I don't want to. I remember getting high on that shit when I was a teenager before I past out. It was a nice buzz. I take pride in not taking anything when I'm sick. But I'm rarely sick. Then again, I guess alcohol is a medicine. And I'm using that now. So who am I crappin'?

Zzzquil is just Benadryl basically, it is a brand name for Diphenhydramine. Take a little bit of it at night and it will make you tired, it's better than getting drunk.

You’re screwing yourself. Alcohol is going to worsen your insomnia.

Well, I don't have any now. And I'm not gonna make a run. So I'm gonna drink. Is that Zzzquil addictive? Cuz I don't want to rely on that if I don't have to. Same with sleeping pills. This insomnia shit just recently hit me. So maybe, as Mike Ditka once said, "This too shall pass".

Maybe throw on that Robin Williams / Al Pacino movie that was directed by Christopher Nolan. Underrated.

Lot's of stuff has been racing through my mind recently. That's probably it.

I know you guys only know me as the guy that comments on "Sports radio". But there is more to me then that.

My waters run deep.

CFMB: Wow. Hope you get through it. There really is more to you then sports radio? We misjudged you. We now have a new respect for you.

Beardown: Yes. Thanks. I have HOOKER problems.

CFMB: You mother fuckin' son of a bitch.

I'm not sure if you are serious or not, Beardown. But, I have this problem as well.

Whatever stress you have - personal, job, etc. - sneaks into your mind at 1-2am and you just can't fall back asleep because you focus on what you need to do next. In my case, job-stress, I worry about all the stuff I have to do when I wake up and I cannot sleep because I'm thinking about how I'm going to approach the issues.

So, I've memorized a few of my favorite scenes from movies/TV shows and I start to recite them in mind like I'm counting sheep. They are long scenes so I don't remember the whole thing and then I get caught up in remembering it all and before you know it, it is 4 hours later.

So, there. An actual suggestion.

Dollar Tree has their bottle of either 30 or 36 generic Benadryl for $1 a bottle.
Take 2 about 30 minutes before you hope to actually fall asleep.
It's worth a buck to try them, and no, they aren't addictive.
Costco also has something called Kirkland Sleep Aid. (I use these 7 nights a week)
$7 for like 90 pills.
Or just go with the beer, whatever...

Get a book. Start reading it in bed. You will fall asleep within 5 pages.

Thanks. I actually am serious about my recent insomnia. Stuff is on my mind. I just like to joke and fuck around here. It's actually a fun release. Glad you fuckers are up to engage me.

I'll take your advice tonight. But not before 2 more. And it will be Godfather lines. Cuz that's what I'm watching.

No. Have him watch the original. It’s foreign. He’ll have to read. Win-win. Either he watches a better movie or the reading will put him to sleep.

Doesn't matter what it is. The point is trying to remember and recite it in your head.

Can't do that and worry about your stresses are at the same time.

I wasn't going to disclose this but since W_Z is here. I try to go through the Guinan/Picard scene from Measure of A Man.

In all seriousness....there are occasions when I can't fall asleep and I envision a 4 wr set with all of them running their specific routes and I will pass out before I ever get through all the progressions. Its instant lights out.

Howard Stern’s mom has advice I used years ago when it hit me again (had it bad in high school), and it worked. It’s a state of mind thing.

When you’re laying down in bed, the mind set is that you’re resting whether you are asleep or not. The more you relax and let yourself believe you’re resting, you either fall asleep or you are physically letting your body rest. Eventually you will be rested.

The atmospherics / ambience of the original Scandinavian versions of 'Insomnia', 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' and 'Let The Right One In' make them great late night watches. Not sure if Hollywood ever remade 'Let The Right One In', maybe under a different title?

If that scene doesn’t do it, I go through the whole Lawyer Picard scene.

Prove to the Board that I am sentient.

Fun Fact - The judge in the Measure of a Man episode wrote the song The Rose made famous by Bette Midler.

Listen to that. That would probably put you to sleep.

Full circle.

My grandfather followed the same practice. But he also built himself an enclosed porch and could sleep in the breezes.
