What type of miserable person do you have to be to spend a shit load of time looking for tweets made by an athlete when they were a kid? Why didn't these players agents have someone look and delete these tweets by now? |

While I agree with the sentiment, it doesn’t take much time at all to search for a username and a keyword. |

expect more of these stories. it's become a trend, and clickbait news will be all over this for the next month or so. the witch hunt will be pretty extensive. clear history. |

You would think after Hader, everyone would have checked their timeline. Especially those who are prone to saying burrito. |

Not sure about absolving these guys for responsibility based on "they were just kids". If you're a 17-18 year arm with a 92+ MPH fastball, you've likely been scouted for a couple years already and are keenly aware that you're within a year or two of cashing a MiLB paycheck + draft bonus money. Not like they woke up as a 22 year old surprised to be pitching for a pro franchise. In the case of a lefty like Hader, chances of at least getting a September call-up on a major league roster is virtually guaranteed (barring injury/losing their fastball/etc). I'd guess left-handed pitchers have the highest percentage of any position of making it to "the show", at least for a cup of coffee. tl;dr if you have a left-handed son, put a baseball in their hand in the crib--and monitor their social media when they get older. |

Come on! Expecting a kid not to do or say dumb shit is unreasonable even for those who may likely become millionaires. If all of us had to answer questions about things we did or said when we were in high school MANY of us would have problems. |

Every team should hire an intern @ $15 an hour to review all tweets of players in your org. Problem solved. |

Nearly entire history of your interactions are being recorded now. Teens are replacing conversations with social media, and people are being held accountable for stupid things they said as a child. I don't know how anyone can think this is a fair way to judge people. |

I'd put the onus as much on the adults in these future MLB players lives as on the players themselves. Maybe the scouting process, which begins ridiculously early nowadays, needs to include "YOU AND SOCIAL MEDIA: THINGS YOU CAN'T SAY AND STAY IN THE MAJORS UNLESS YOU HAVE A 0.77 WHIP/16K per 9/sub 2.00 ERA" (roughly Hader's numbers). If Hader were a righty with 5.00+ ERA and crappy K to BB ratio, he'd have been DFA'd by morning. |

flawed counterpoint, but i still must ask.... so how would this have gone if the tweets were about asians and the creator was a Caucasian named Sarah Smith? would the NYT stand by her and allow a satire excuse? |

This "article" is embarrassing, as are Sam Dunh and Barry McCockiner. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb ... ar-BBQGSn0 Quote: The first rule of Twitter? Never tweet.
That bit of advice would've served a 14-year-old Kyler Murray very, very well. Sure, a lot has transpired since Murray was a young high schooler back in 2012. He emerged as a two-sport star, got selected in the first round of the MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics, took over for 2017 Heisman winner Baker Mayfield at the University of Oklahoma, and ended up winning the famous trophy himself tonight. But with that comes increased scrutiny, and some of his unfortunate throwback tweets is worth contextualizing and reckoning with. Samm Dun @RealFakeSamDunn Kyler Murray tweeted these in 2012. Really not great If I was a betting man, I'd wager that Murray is thoroughly embarrassed about the sentiments he expresses here. I'd wager that he doesn't go through life using reckless, hateful language. I want that to be true, anyway. And yet, here we are. Barry McCockiner @SportsTalkBarry "I apologize for my offensive tweets towards the LGBTQ community..." -future statement from Kyler Murray 388 8:46 PM - Dec 8, 2018 Murray would be smart to get out ahead of this tasteless series of episodes from six years ago and speak out as soon as possible about how wrong he knows this all was. What's done is done. At least clear the air going forward, big man. Oh, and congrats on the award. |

I am actually surprised anyone keeps anything on Twitter for more than like a year. I don’t see the historic necessity for anything or anyone big or small. Should be an auto time based clean tool. |
