You have to hit someone for taking you deep too much?

and by hit, i hope you mean fists. cleared benches are one of the most ridiculous things in sports. I'll show them i'll run out from the bullpen and stand there and stare at my opponent.

Have to hit someone after they drill your guy for taking them deep to much is what I belief rpb is saying.

I think you misunderstood something here.

That's what the Marlins did. Braves needed to retaliate.

They would have still won. And Im not super old school and say this every time someone gets hit, but when it's THAT blatant and THAT guy? I know he's going to be ok, but that could have ruined their season. Fuck that.

Every team needs a Zambrano type just for situations like that. Braves are too nice of a team to win anything.

They would have won that game, probably. What about future games? The guy that retaliates is dealing with a suspension and missing 1 start or multiple appearances if he is a bullpen arm. Does the 26th man on the 40-man roster give you as good of a chance to win future games?

What is hitting a random Marlins player going to do? Ureña was out. Are you going to hit Starlin who did not even attend the pitchers meeting where Ureña said he was gonna do that. Did Ureña even tell anyone or was it a solo act?

Braves have a two game lead over the Phillies. Play winning baseball. Be above dumb shit.

Braves and Marlins play next weekend. If the Braves have a 6 game lead in the division by then, and Ureña has an AB in the 5th inning and you're up 4-0, MAYBE you smack his buttcheek.

Bring in the worst bullpen guy, a suspension to him is not going to affect the pennant race. Hit whoever you want, not the Braves problem that Starlin didn't plan it.

or do nothing and let teams believe they can do whatever they want to your players. Also I guarantee there are players in that clubhouse upset about it, a significant portion of baseball players are still old school.

This is as 'homer baseball' as you can get. And I completely disagree with your assumption that a significant portion are old school. It gets less and less every year. The consensus seems to be that those old school redasses like Nick Hundley, Brian Dozier, Brian McCann, DJ LeMahieu...dying breed. And whenever they do come out to the media with their bullshit, they get pretty heavily shredded.

I thought he tried to retaliate, but ended up throwing behind the Ranger hitter or missing badly? Either way, Padilla was a shithead who hit MANY Sox batters during his tenure.

It didn't matter...Tracey sucked, anyway...

According to the ESPN story I found in the Google Machine, he threw inside twice and got Hank Blalock to ground out...and Ozzie was pissed...that pretty much sums up the 2006 season right there....90 fucking wins and don't make the playoffs.

I dont normally but that was so fuckin blatant and that could literally prevent them from winning the World Series. Like what if he broke a bone?

I think it's just from a baseball fan perspective, too. Acuna and the Braves rise is a great story. Don't rob me of that!

I know it's not completely rational, but to quote a former board member...that's just how I feel.

Deshaies is on record as saying "hitters are too comfortable hitting against Lester"

There's something to be said about the game turning into wiffleball with zero fear from the batter. it's not good for a pitcher's livelihood for hitters to have zero fear. I firmly believe Pedro wouldn't have been as effective without the fear. But i also believe there's a fine line line between purpose and cowardice. it's a shame the players quit self policing properly and the league had to step in.

So, the ones who advocate throwing at people will be perfectly fine when, eventually, a batter decides to go after the pitcher with a bat, yes?

RPB is right. You send in a meaningless pitcher to drill someone once the game is decided. You also drill the pitcher the next time you face him. Your future star needs to know the team and staff has his back.
