A pissing contest between the rich people at Hinsdale Central and the not rich people at Hinsdale South. The board is extorting the district by holding sports and activities hostage until they get their way, and I say that as someone who has never voted against a school referendum. Also as an Lyons Township fuck alum, fuck Central, sorry about your bass fishing team.

I read that part of the article and had to chuckle. What other schools have bass fishing teams? Why does this even exist?

If there was ever a time for The Chaunce Sack to return, this is the thread.

How can anyone forget the titanic clash last year where Pinckneyville (Ed?) defeated Farmington 17-8 to 15-11?

this situation impacts my family. the school board has redistricted my property more or less on a whim and in an effort to get south resident votes for the referendum.

as kd states, its basically class warfare.... the wealthy attend central and the not as wealthy attend south... trying to treat both schools equally has proven to be difficult.

as much as i loathe this school boards impulse and reactionary governing.... the underlying rich vs. not as rich issues make getting anything done basically impossible.

So who is being more reasonable? Is it the Maples that want more sunlight or the Oaks that ignore their pleas?

They had fly fishing teams out west but I think it was more a club sport than anything. I chuckled when I heard it. A

Bass fishing is an official sport for the Missouri state athletic assoc. A former student of mine got a pretty nice scholarship for college in it.

The idea must be that anyone who successfully grifts the state for a bass fishing scholarship must be pretty smart.

Bass fishing started as an IHSA sport about 7-8 years ago and has become popular. A school only has to provide 2 boats which either the coaches or the fathers of the participants provide. The only sanctioned event in terms of the IHSA is the sectional and state championship tournament if a school qualifies. Schools do hold open tournaments in preparation for the sectionals. Youth fishing overall has become very popular over the last few years and college bass fishing has exploded. The fishing industry is constantly talking about "growing the sport." It doesn't have to be an expensive sport for schools. Most coaches volunteer their time and kids that want to be on the team usually have gear to get them started. I have run my boat in Jr Bassmaster tournaments before but not for the regional since it is always on a Friday. Personally, I think it's great for the kids.

Yep. They have it at my daughter’s high school (much to my surprise).

Swimming at Hinsdale Central is a big fucking program. Generally ranks as one of the top schools in the state. Pulling football and swimming is for sure a big fuck you to those Hinsdale empty nesters.

They should. The parents at Hinsdale Central in particular are fucking insane to deal with from a coaching aspect from what I have been told. No way they ever let this happen.
