for a number of reasons probably, however the latest is I sent flowers to my MIL in CO because she came here and helped with a bunch of stuff while my wife had been feeling ill and dealing with lymes disease.

i spelled her name wrong. i spelt it Sheryl when its Sharyl. my MIL of 18 years. 800 flowers said its too late to change. FML

Just blame it on 1800-Flowers. Pass the buck. She doesn't need to know that you spelled it wrong.

With spelling and punctuation like this post, I'm sure she will expect nothing less.

Cheryl,

I enjoyed looking at your daughter's asshole last night. Please accept these donuts that I dug out of the dumpster as token of my appreciation.

Happy Birthday,
hnd

that's what i'm hoping to do. but she will never say anything. she's pretty awesome and as someone pointed out, NOBODY will be surprised.

my wife told me 2 years ago that i was saying her name wrong...and have been all this time. her name has an "a" in it and i've been doing an /e/ sound and not a /ei/ sound.

blame the flower company for sure.... tell your MIL you ordered over the phone and they still screwed up the name.... only problem is you have to get her to show you the misspelled name if you arent going to be in person.... otherwise she may think you screwed up but wont bring it up to you

they game me the name of the local (to her) flower place that will be doing the delivery. I called them up and they asked me a few verifying type questions and he said he would make the change for me. He laughed....a lot. Deservedly so I guess.

No i am talking about my wife's name. yes. the person i've known for 20 years. pretty much 90% of people we know pronounce it the way i did. so its not like i was the only person doing it.

Every time we visit my father in law I get dragged out to a pizza place near his house to sit at the bar and have a drink or two with him as the pizzas cook. He uses this time to discuss what is going on sixth farm and tells me not to listen to his daughter. It’s all very odd but not as odd as the few times he’s called me on my cell phone. I always think someone has died. Mother in law gave me a ride home when I was 8 years old or so and didn’t remember it till she mentioned it at the wedding or baby shower my mom had for my wife. I’ve had many conversations in the 20 odd years my wife and I have been together. I still don’t know what to call either of them. Mr. and Mrs. is too formal, I’m not calling them mom or dad and first name is wayyyy to casual.

I’m guessing the phrase 20 odd years is pretty accurate.

That's very Superman-ish on the pronunciation.

We will ask you a few, simple questions to authenticate your order.

What is your wife's name?

I call my in laws Mr. and Mrs. I think I set the standard for the other in laws. One of my BIL married a country girl and she tried to use mom and dad but it didn't go over well.

I'd never disrespect my parents by calling someone else mom or dad.

I know my in-laws on a first name basis or grandma and papa. I met them in my 40's. First names are good at this point. Any of my old school friends' parents still get the Mr and Mrs treatment.
