It was like Brett Favre was playing first base.

Is this any worse than the Sux trotting an 80 year Mimmy Mimosa as a token?

At least Minoso was an MVP and a multiple time All Star. Way way way worse is letting crippled Kerry Woods come out of the pen to celebrate a decidedly mediocre career one final time.

As far as this play, my initial reaction was "meh." Neither team had anything to play for, and it was a foul ball. Stupid, but whatever. At the end of the season like this, we have seen guys try to play all 9 positions, Starters giving up their turn in the rotation so a guy can go after 200K, 20Wins, or whatever. We've also seen Reyes sit out the final game of the season to cinch a batting title.

My apologies. I meant to say he was a top five MVP finisher multiple times. He was also a multiple gold glove winner. His career WAR is nearly double that of Carrie Woods.

Been a great week for me. Cubs haven't won a game since Labor Day, and the Bears are knocking on the door of first place 8)

This is a non-issue.

Reading more into this story, I would DBag the Red Sox. They clearly knew what was going on, as all three batters swung at the first pitch and made outs in the 8th inning.

200 Ks isn't even that much of a deal, which makes it even dumber. My guess is that a pitcher like Nolan Ryan, Verlander, or Cole would be pissed at the fielder for not taking the out.

If Houston wins tonight and the Dodgers lose, Houston locks up home field through the World Series. Houston owns the tie-breaker vs the Yankees due to head-to-head as well as the WS home field tie-breaker vs the Dodgers based on whatever criteria.

Verlander scheduled to pitch tomorrow, Cole Sunday. Due to the ALDS not starting til Friday, they'd easily be on schedule to have Verlander-Cole pitch games 1 and 2. But if they don't need the W's, I wonder if they'll skip em, have em throw BP sessions and start September call-ups.

Considering they'd have to throw BP sessions on their scheduled start day anyhow, prolly makes sense to run em both out for one-time through the Trout-less Angels order. Maybe leave Cole in through 5 if they have a lead to give him a shot at 20 wins and a chance to steal the Cy Young from Verlander.

End of season stat padding/record chasing is a time honored tradition in every sport. David Robinson’s 71 pointer to win the scoring title on the last game of the season is a favorite.

41 years ago, David Thompson dropped 73 on the last night of the season to take the lead for the scoring title. Gervin needed 58 to retake the lead. It was an early game and before Chicago had cable, and the Iceman' s game was too late to make the newspapers. I didn't think he'd get it and was grousing about it in class the next day until a friend mentioned that the Iceman dropped 63.

That was back in the days when I styled myself as a Pistol Pete type on the court. Of course all I had in common with him was a funny afro and floppy socks.
