Halloween canceled because "inclusiveness". Quote: “As part of our school and district-wide commitment to equity, we are focused on building community and creating inclusive, welcoming environments for all,” said Cooney in a statement via e-mail. “While we recognize that Halloween is a fun tradition for many families, it is not a holiday that is celebrated by all members of our school community and for various reasons. There are also inequities in how we have traditionally observed the holiday as part of our school day. Our goal at Lincoln is to provide space and opportunities for all students to be part of the community — not to create an environment that may feel exclusive or unwelcoming to any child.” Let's ruin the day for children, and eliminate American traditions. |

So does every family gets veto power over every school activity? Or do only families with parents or children from protected groups get veto power? |

How much you want to bet they are not canceling the "holiday sing" with all the Christmas carols? |

If another religion has a day where MILFs dress slutty and they give out free candy, I'm all for joining in on the celebration |

Jorr and I were talking about this the other day. If you can't even agree on what holidays then what common ground do we have as citizens? |

Canceling fun shit probably isn't the best strategy to promote inclusion. |

Your bar for slutty attire is egregiously low. #notmyevanston. |

We've set the change into motion already by providing Balck Friday off with Thanksgiving. Unabashed Commercialism, Greed and Bargain Hunting , three overpowering American traits, all rolled into one day that still allows us white males to utter the "B" word. We'll just drop the Thursday anti-Native American celebration and take only Friday off-still get a long weekend. Thanksgiving football games suck routinely, anyway. Good Friday is still a paid holiday at my employer, for some unknown reason. The number of actual, practicing Christians is so small as to be nearly indiscernible, if evidenced by their behavior the other 364 days. |

Who was complaining about this? It's one of the few holidays NOT tied to religion. WTF? |

As someone who won't let my little gender neutral one celebrate Halloween I support this separation of church and state. |

If I were a parent at that school I would have my kid wear anything that he or she wants to wear that day and dare that ding bat principal to ban my kid from attending school that day. IF the kid wants to be a pilgrim, a fireman, a police officer, a soldier or sailor, an airline pilot etc. . Anything. As long as the outfit is safe and doesn't insult other kids, "F" that principal. |

They could still wear a costume I think. There just won't be any Halloween activities at school. Plus why wait for certain holidays to let your kid dress however he/she wants? |
