Something like this happened back up in LG last month:  No surprise that a Badger student would fail to use the subjunctive mood in a counterfactual statement. They never taught us that! Naperville's racist students would have written "were," no question. |

DA seems to be overreaching with the Hate Crime charges. I think these kids were friends and it was a joke (though a dumb and ill-advised one). I was struck by this statement: 'Prosecutors called the allegations “serious and aggravating,” and said the alleged actions put the victim’s safety at risk.' How would this stupid stunt put the victim at risk? Would some idiot actually call the Craiglist ad and seek out the "slave"? |

Man, I'm just not sure a 14 year old can be capable of a hate crime. Supreme idiocy...file those charges. Hate crime? Eh... Very appreciative of the different culture when I was 14 years old. I think half the school would have been charged with some thing or another. |

Yeah, different times for sure. There was always tension between those who wore Confederate flag paraphernalia and those who did not, but even those of us on the right side of that line were still casually racist and all that. |

Agree with many here. Why school involved is a question I usually have about a lot of crimes that happen away from there. The thing that puzzled me also was the DA syays the allegations are “serious and aggravating,” and said the alleged actions put the victim’s safety at risk.' In the link the judge orders the kid to not do anythingmore at school or whatever after released on I bond. Is it usual for serious and aggravating race offenders putting people at risk to get I bonds and allowed back in school? |
