But then you got people in the AJ Freund case saying the government didn't do enough to prevent his getting killed. Really a no win situation.

Exactly.

There has to be a happy medium though between ignoring evidence of abuse and doing everything possible to find abuse no matter what.

kid was adopted and not with the family long. Aren't all adoptions provisional. This guy admits he's an incompetent parent; hardly worthy of a felony but prolly best not to give him any more infant children.
