A six-month jail sentence for Stanford swimmer Brock Turner, who was convicted of sexual assault, has caused public outrage. His father's letter asking the court for leniency has only fanned the flames.

"His life will never be the one that he dreamed about and worked so hard to achieve," Dan A. Turner wrote in the letter asking for probation. "That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life."

Wasn't this line from a letter to the judge for consideration during sentencing? It's uncouth, to be sure, but I guess I have a harder time decrying someone for saying anything and everything when their son or daughter is staring down the barrel of a very serious felony at a young age, regardless of their unquestionable culpability.

I figured this thread would be several pages by now.

Pretty much this. I see the angle of trying to save the kid's life but never in those words or even close to it. I would think a letter like that should be dripping with remorse and regret not indifference at best.

Regarding the offender list I sort of agree with the dad. I think there should be some degrees to the listing. I am not sure how but the kiddie predator, violent rapist and date rape/statutory things are different and should be listed in some way showing that.

"20 minutes of action" are words on a goddamn piece of paper submitted to a judge, he didn't even read out the plea in court, so it's not like he pointed to her in court and said "this slut was basically asking for it!". The phrasing is uncouth, yes even in context, but Jesus Christ, nobody was fucking stabbed by "20 minutes of action".

Yeah... like that shit that Patrick Kanes accusers mom pulled. That totally tanked her case.
