Meaningless. Call it a true story or STFU. Everything is "inspired by a true event". |

I wasn't being specific. Just saw an ad and it reminded me how much I hate that premise. I'll give a pass to Law & Order's "ripped from the headlines"....that was good stuff. Love a good Lenny one-liner into the open. RIP to the Wheeling native. |

tommy wrote: First one who besmirches Something for Joey will get my foot up they ass Well that was an actual true story. That's cool. I'm fine with embellished true stories. Brian's Song. They didn't take Cappelletti and have him win 4 Super Bowls. Also, it launched Marc Singer into the great V Mini-series. |

Little did we know back in the 70s that Marc Singer would rule the 80s, starting with his role as The Beastmaster in The Beastmaster. He was like Luke Skywalker (the white one) on steroids. Had hot sister, too. |

Speaking of burgers, The Founder was based on true events, and it's great, a dark allegory about the decline of America and how the corporation has consumed the individual. Go Bernie! |

I fear a movie about my life would be uninspired by true events |

Inception -- based on a true story ... we think we heard about a couple of white guys each with two ears and wearing shoes that had a conversation about having a dream about being chased by a baloney sandwich for what felt like forever. |

Worse than "historical fiction"? |

GoldenJet wrote: Worse than "historical fiction"? Like Molotov Cocktail by John O. Virtanen, the historical fiction novel (which I have reference on here before) about the valorous Finns fighting the Reds in 1939. Chapter 3 had a steamy sex scene which could power a thousand saunas. (I was twelve when I read it, so I could be wrong.) I bought this beauty for fiddy cent at Woolworth's at Ford City. (Reader was probably there when I bought it.) It is, as the lone Amazon review below says, HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE! Teuvo Kalakkaakijaan, Finnish Reviewer wrote: If you had read 'The Unknown Soldier" (Tuntematon Sotilas) written by Vaino Linna, you will like "Molotov Cocktail" by John Virtanen. Although it is a novel with ficticious characters, the historical scenario is very accurate and one can really learn a lot of how Finnish soldiers lived in their trenches during the Winter War. The creation of the famous (infamous for the Soviets!!!) Molotov Cocktail is well described and it is really incredible that such a simple and easy to get weapon could have destroyed hundreds of Soviet tanks. Even though it was already used in the Spanish Civil War, it was in the Winter War that this weapon received its name. The Finnish soldiers used to say that if Molotov brings his baskets of food, they would contribute with the drinks, "The Molotov Cocktails". It is an outstanding writing of how a tiny David could stop the gigantic Soviet Goliath. HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE!!! |
