This place is not allowed to use money as the reason. NCAA can atleast make any Senior auto eligible if they transfer. Even if they have not graduated. https://sports.yahoo.com/wisconsin-tell ... 25444.html |

denisdman wrote: Help me, what is the logic in that? Cost cutting. Not having an NCAA tournament cost Big Ten schools around $2 million. There is a chance that schools will have to refund all season tickets for football next year. So, adding 35 scholarship athletes to non-revenue sports was a tough thing to do. I think it's wrong too but it's a tough spot. |

What are they supposed to do? People who otherwise would've been able to afford tuition no longer will be able to and the state of Wisconsin (every state actually) is going to lose billions in tax revenue. You think they can afford to dole out for their scholarships another year? If you really think this is douchebaggery you are in really in for it. Hurricane Austerity is coming for everything. Nothing and nobody will be unaffected. These institutions are now forced to make decisions to ensure their survival. You do understand that most of the University of Wisconsin system will probably cease to exist in five years, right? Stevens Point, Whitewater, Lacrosse...there's no fucking money for this shit anymore. They killed the global economy, get ready to see the repercussions. |

Alvarez is right. Get on with your lives. Life is unfair. Since they're seniors they graduated. They're no longer students. |

If the side that wants to shut down the country for eighteen months gets their way that'll be the end of any college sport that isn't football. You're crying because track and field seniors wont get to compete in their fifth year of school? Its not impossible that you'll never see an NCAA track and field competition again. You guys didn't actually think you could shut down the USA and there wouldn't be consequences, right? |

As a Wisconsin grad, this is disappointing. It applies to spring sports, which Wisconsin has none of consequence. If these were football, basketball, or hockey senior, you better believe they would have been welcomed back in Madison next year. |

The big belief pervasive in the United States that big institutions can just weather any punch and should always do right by people even if it violates fiscal sanity is about to be absolutely shattered. So too will the myth that the wealthy can cover the bills. |

Wisconsin is actually a state that has run a surplus and put aside a rainy day fund. So I may have been wrong that they will need to close state universities, good on them if they can avoid that. But still there is going to be pain. |

I would be surprised if people could 1) name more than two spring sports. 2) honestly say they've watched more than 10 minutes of any spring collegiate sporting event. 2a) spring football doesn't count. |

You guys didn't actually think you could shut down the USA and there wouldn't be consequences, right? In 2008, the Fed pumped money into banks off the books. Maybe we can refinance every loan and mortgage, claim a bank crisis, and the Fed covers the losses again with their "secret" printing press. Everybody looks the other way just like last time. When Rand Paul calls for an audit of the Fed, we kill him. |

La Crosse is probably #3 on the depth chart after Milwaukee. Eau Claire and Stevens Point could go. Stout, River Falls, and Platteville all seem highly endangered. Parkside is a community college LARPing as a four-year, I can't tell whether that makes it most vulnerable or least vulnerable. |

Wisconsin has D3 sports at public university prices. If you have decent grades you can go to school up there much cheaper than any of the directional schools in this state. |

No fair to include Western, they were already fucked. Seems that the local hick 18 year olds want to go elsewhere to get their learning, and the townsfolk don't like all these Chicago youts that are show up at Macomb instead. |
