Just watch Rodon end up in the same boat as Giolito (not at that level of course) but with him being easily fixable and it's something that Katz noticed right away than any half competent pitching coach should have. |

Ogie Oglethorpe wrote: What the fuck was he even doing the last several years? That seems like a typical best shape of his life spring training story. I am willing to bet this guy is much better than Cooper, but I would say Cease is more of a place to have a lot of hope for improvement. |

Every one of these guys is selling his own version of snake oil. Cooper did a lot of good work with a lot of players over the years. His process also DIDN"T work with a lot of players. I'll be happy if Katz can match Cooper's track record. Rodon's problems are hardly Cooper related, or, at the very least, the things a pitching coach could fix are minor compared to his problems of health. How many times have the Cubs brought in a new best in the business batting coach with no effect? I don't say this because I think they can't coach. I say this because a lot of success is on the player. |

Lucas Giolito's 2018 to 2019 performance difference was because of Katz. It should've been cause for termination of Cooper right then and there as it is a problem when Giolito had to go outside of the organization in the first place because Cooper was a useless fat tub of lard. Coooper did legitimately do things in the 2000s, but by the time 2010 rolled around, he was fucking useless. |

A pitcher who "thinks" he's fixed is a better pitcher. A good pitching coach is 50% snake oil salesman. Yes, Katz got Giolito a couple more spins on his fastball, but he also stopped throwing sinkers in favor of changes. |

And of course the new guy is going to say he has something in mind he can fix? What else is he going to say? The man is trash and we are moving on |

Is he going back to Cease's high school tapes? Additionally, Giolito had success in his minor league career using thoughts of pitching coaches who moved him away from what he did in high school. I'm happy Cooper is gone for several reasons. I'm happy and hopeful for Katz' presence. I'm always skeptical of these miracle worker coaches application across multiple players |

Maybe he can do something with Lopez, but Rodon is done. I don't think he pitches more than 20 innings this season.Katz should be focusing on getting Cease to a #2 guy in the rotation and for Kopech to jump in and be a solid starter once he gets some innings under his belt in Charlotte. |

I think any coach around as long as Coop is going to become a lazier shell of his former self. 2005 was quite an accomplishment. 2015 until today he was coasting with dumb ass mangers. |

Like dolphin said, maybe Katz can find a way to get it out of him. |

Like dolphin said, maybe Katz can find a way to get it out of him. His "issues" were always command and only when he hasn't pitched. It always took him 4-6 starts to get command. He was then absolutely without a doubt, a very good pitcher. Inevitably, injury would derail him. Then the cycle would continue. Lack of command, find command, be very good, and then get hurt. There was NO mental issues or lack of confidence. |
