Guy was an awful ref for years. Just got himself shitcanned for this one too. Back before Wysh became an insufferable prick, he used to do a funny Puck Daddy recurring feature on Peel's notorious blown calls |

How bad of a ref is Tim Peel? Well watch this video for laughs. The puck hits the side of the net and never even comes close to entering it. Peel calls a goal on the ice when he is standing a few feet away from the net and has a perfect view of it. He then blows the review and still calls it a good goal so the NHL war room in Toronto has to sound the arena horn to get him on a headset and tell him how much of a fucking moron he is and then tell him what the correct call is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roQqDn2qZM4 |

toronto has made their jobs easier - seems like most have exhaled. growing up, you knew van hellemond would only raise his arm twice in a playoff game and that the canadiens would out-PP their opponents in the forum by 2-1 ratios. i want to say that bill mccreary called 6-7 consecutive blackhawk penalties in a playoff game in st. louis, i believe the game that featherstone did dental work on roenick. keenan and kerry fraser did a real estate deal (i think keenan bought fraser's house) and canadian media wouldn't let that go. outrageous stuff. thinking that denis morel was the tim peel of the 80s. |

It was as though he didn't bother watching the slo-mo replay. Even with my old bad eyes it was very easy to pick up on replay. |

Not only is he an arrogant smartass but he can't seem to go a show without talking about wrestling, comic book movies, or some other lame topic. I hope that with the NHL going to ESPN he is not a big part of their production. |

Who was the Ref in the 80's/90's who had it in for the Blackhawks? I believe he had a big mustache. |

mccreary had one, so did terry gregson - i want to say gregson was 'good' for the hawks. hawks vs canadiens with denis morel as the ref...forget it. mccreary called 6-7 consecutive penalties on the hawks in a playoff game. unheard of, in the playoffs. no wonder featherstone believed he could cross-check roenick in the mouth. a few years later was the st. patrick's day massacre...hawks vs. blues. great rivalry. |

yeah, shick...little guy with the mousy moustache. the ref union had it out for chicago after the lysiak trip. things calmed down, but i want to say mccreary was very anti-hawk. |

so what was behind giving a penalty out at that part of the game? just a grudge or they have some kind of mandate from the NHL to call certain amount of penalties in a period to make the game more interesting? |

HawaiiYou wrote: so what was behind giving a penalty out at that part of the game? just a grudge or they have some kind of mandate from the NHL to call certain amount of penalties in a period to make the game more interesting? There's a 3rd possible and probably most likely scenario that hasn't been discussed. It could be that the ref felt Nashville was playing a little too close to the edge in the first period and he was hoping he would get the opportunity to call a penalty on them early before the game got out of control. Refs do this all the time to try and take back control of the game if they feel one or both teams are starting to get a little too physical. Nothing wrong with that if that was what happened. |
