If your younger wife passes away before you and you made more money than her, you get none of what she paid in to Social Security. You get a $255 death benefit. That's it.

If you have a $1 million+ pension, you should get no social security.

Why?

Because it's not a government run pension. It's a tax to pay Mertle next week, who may or may not have a million dollar pension.

It's a ponzi scheme or alms for the poor. Either way, it seems a touch unfair.

That's crazy, but not surprising.

Wonder how they are arrived at the grand total of $255 bucks

I know that stinks, but if you think about it, it makes sense. SS is there to provide for the living. Similarly, if you died tomorrow and had no young kids, the government keeps it all.

True. I had done some SS research, but hadn't seen the part that you get nothing. The $255 will pay for the funeral cards I guess. But, even with that I had to make an appointment for Sept in order to apply for the one time death benefit. They wouldn't do that during my time at the SS office today. The only good thing was that I was only there around 30 minutes and not the hours I assumed it would take.

If a hedge fund operated the way social security does, all of the principals would be indicted, tried, and jailed for securities fraud.

That's what an average miserable life in Biden's America is worth.

$255 is pretty outrageous. I was glad my employer had child life insurance because it something I never would have though to buy. Can you even get the simplest cremation for $255?

I don't think so, but I didn't shop around. There may be programs in place in the city that have that option. The basic cost was $1,795 and didn't include an urn or death certificates.

I am sorry I do not remember what we paid for my Dad's cremation and basic packaging. I imagine this is alot of what hose 9.99 a month life insurance policies without questions are about.

Average costs...this is pretty consistent with what I recall when my brother died in 2018.
Direct Cremation $1,385
Immediate Burial $1,790
Cremation Memorial $3,295
Full Service $6,547

It costs more than that to cremate a cat. Btw, don't pay for the ashes. The pet and people crematoriums send out random ashes and not your pet or loved ones.
