Do picks where the guy can't really play but is super athletic ever pan out? Thinking of Tyrus Thomas and other "pro day/combine warriors" who are more impressive for their athleticism than actual statistical accomplishments. Seems like Richardson has all the promise in the world to be a highly sought after aerobics instructor once he's cut from the roster.

I've got more faith in Richardson than Young, they should draft Duggan too in the 4th.

You should be able to get his autograph at LA Fitness once he becomes your trainer in a few years.

Asked about the likelihood of Richardson playing early in the season, perhaps from Week 1, owner Jim Irsay offered a direct answer.

"I think it's important," Irsay said. "You get better by playing. I mean, practice and preseason games and watching in a quarterback room, that's great. But, man, I'll tell you, he'd get better by playing, and it's something that it is really important. Because, again, his development [is] so much of a key to the franchise's future. It is the critical key.

what?

Listen, we got this nice car, super good looking with the potential to, you know, eventually be driven on a road someday. It really hasn't been tested before and is missing key parts of the engine, but development of those parts is really key here and we're super excited to see what happens.

Who would you've taken if you were the GM? It's a lotto ticket with massive potential.

They have a team ready to go next year. They drafted a QB who is AT LEAST a year away from being able to start. They hated having to go after veteran QB year after year but now they will have to do so for two more years.

I love their draft otherwise.

GD, "at least a year away from starting"? The dude has arguably never started a college season. He's at least five years away from understanding how to play the position.

Everyone is potentially a lotto ticket. I would have traded up for stroud or young if I wanted a rookie. It's one thing to take a DT or DE based on some combo of "potential", athleticism, and body type. It's another thing entirely to take a QB based on 100% projections and not on past production. Has that ever happened this high in the draft? They didn't draft a football player at four. They drafted an athlete.

I'd be surprised if he isn't the starter week his second year, he has all the tools and lacks experience.. believe Hurts coach from Philly will be working with him in Indy.

I know Bears fans have been lamenting the non-hiring of Chris Ballard, but he really has made some shit moves the past couple of years

According to Dane Brugler, the Colts had the #2 draft class, placing behind only Philadelphia in the overall rankings (Bears were at #5, Packers at #6, Detroit at #9).

I just don't get that. Here's the illustrious list of QBs Richardson belongs to with respect to his pre draft experience:

QBs with less than 20 college starts

Anthony Richardson
2023
13
Trey Lance
2021
17
Mac Jones
2021
17
Kyler Murray
2019
18
Dwayne Haskins
2019
14
Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky
2017
13
Ryan Tannehill
2012
19
Mark Sanchez
16

I have no idea why guys are salivating over the pick. If I'm wrong it means Richardson would be an outlier.

Hmm, one name that stands out and he's been comped to is missing.. Cam Newton.

Seems like he played exactly 20 games so maybe that's why he wasn't included. That list is from the Athletic: https://theathletic.com/4451278/2023/04 ... nt-dilfer/

Here's another quant-heavy article. It suggests the closest predictor of NFL success is completion percentage in college. Richardson had horrible stats in that regard.
