Left the UC last Friday night heading home from Blackhawks game with the kid. GPS takes me down Lake St. and this dude swerves around a car coming towards me as I'm making a left turn. I end up overcorrecting, hitting the concrete pillar of the EL at a low rate of speed and knocking the bumper off. No injuries, but the car needed to be towed. Called Allstate's roadside assistance, they send a tow truck company out. Verify everything with them and with Allstate, car is supposed to be towed to my guy's shop in Elmwood Park. Next day, Allstate calls to apologize for a tow truck never being sent. I explain everything. Turns out they have no idea where the car is. This morning, I did some investigative work to get hold of the tow truck company. Seems the car was towed to somewhere in Chicago Ridge, but the address is an industrial lot. Called my body shop and they told me this is the third time in the past month Allstate has had this problem with a car never arriving at the shop. Last two were completely stripped when they were eventually found. This is fucking insane. Holding out hope the car is found safe. Trying to figure out why I pay all this money for coverage.

Look on the bright side, now you can be the captain of the Blackhawks.

Holy shit, forgot about that. In fairness, those pillars are impossible to see in the pouring rain + dark of night.

It's probably down the street at Arnies. How was it stolen after you gave it to an insurance approved shop?

Tow truck driver was from the company Allstate gave me. Driver even called my number. Allstate verified it was them. Car gets towed away and never makes it to the lot. Allstate then says the original tow truck company never picked up the vehicle. Talking to my body shop, the guy said this is the third or fourth of these cases with Allstate Roadside in the past few months.

tow truck company desperately hires anyone with a neck tatoo. neck tatoo tips his boys off when a valuable car needs a tow. when neck tatoo shows up with his truck, the car is already gone. by the time he reports it the car is already in 1000 pieces and you will never see it again. they have your cocaine and viagra too.

fast forward a few years and your body shop guy is arrested for breaking down thousands of cars in a secret garage in the back parking lot. when he told you about the allstate claims, your car was behind the door on your left. in pieces, but it was there. the onstar module was the first thing to be stripped and sent by itself to markham.

I used to work with a guy that would pay to have his vehicle stolen and torched so he could get a new one every few years.

i have a 2016 Ford Escape (it's a long story )

as long as i wasn't hurt i'd be fine w/ being carjacked as long as insurance paid out. I hate it.

Its day 7 of this and now it will go through the long weekend. The guy that has my car won't release it directly to me, only if Allstate pays him directly. He's asking for $4,500 and the price goes up each day. Because of the holidays, my agent hasn't been successful with getting an adjuster for the claim. Went to the Chicago police, they can't do anything since its a civil matter. Same with Markham police. Called a lawyer and he basically said the insurance is on the hook right now, but when the amount gets higher they will probably just drop me instead of paying it. Essentially my car has been legally stolen.

I think at this point you can legally use non lethal force to get your car back.

The towing business is very lucrative. It sucks for you now, but hopefully you come out whole or better.

I left All State earlier this year after they blamed another enormous rate hike on inflation. I moved to State Farm and got 2020 rates. I haven't filed an insurance claim in my life.

Those storage charges are highly negotiable. Plus, you called your insurance for the tow, as opposed to picking a random towing company yourself. Therefore, the insurance company should be responsible for the towing and storage charges. Finally, as a last resort, if the place to which your car was towed is a body shop, they'll waive all storage charges if you let them do the repair work.

Say what you will about Allstate, you can do a lot worse. If you had a substandard insurance carrier (American Freedom, American Access Casualty Company, Direct Auto) you would be paying for all of this yourself.

Towing obviously has its issues particularly in cook county. How though do you have to have another thought of worry at all after an Allstate dispatch truck hooked up your car?

Are you saying a bad guy towing company took your car, admits to having it, gives you a price and that is legal?

There are tow truck companies that rush to the scene of every accident solely to hook up your car and bend over your insurance company. It sounds like Hoffy allowed one of those companies to take away his car by accident.
