Brian Dennehy is cool (actually, very cold now). I saw him at a Sox game when he was in town doing a play. He seemed amused that anyone would notice him.

I was just a kid when the movie came out, one of the first I watched on VHS. I suppose I'm a little older than you. We seemed to still be in the post Nam era where military service was not respected. Vets weren't hippies but they were counter culture because the culture had rejected them. So, I guess, humanizing the plight of a vet was woke back then.

It was one of those movies I saw on WGN about a dozen times before ever seeing it on VHS. That jacket that Teasle wears.. Looks like a man that might shake things up somewhere.

I read recently that the angst between Teasle and Rambo was based on Teasel's own service in the Korean War, and the lack of recognition those soldiers received as compared to the publicity of the Vietnam vets. I guess the director chose to downplay that angle, and left the Sheriff's NIMBY attitude less defined.

I remember hearing similar talk around the Easter dinner table from my Korean War vet Uncle regarding the hippy Nam guys. He was a real-life Teasle in many ways- local bad-ass cop, bustin' hippy skulls and breaking up pot parties. Saved my bacon one time, and never spoke of it to any family member that I learned of.

I think the tension was created by the Hollywood writer.
