I was at Jewel today and noticed a bag of Doritos is at the highest price I've ever seen at $6.29 for a bag of chips.

Shouldn't the nomination be for Jewel?

If your entire family split a bag of chips for dinner, it’s actually pretty reasonable.

3/4th's of the bag is air. I've been switching to the generic brands. At least they mostly still fill the bag with you know.... actual product.

No because Frito Lays sets the suggested retail price. Jewel sells products at the suggested regular retail price or a sale price. So this is the NEW regular price of a bag of chips at most national grocers.

its like when you go buy a PlayStation, XBOX, or any Apple product and it costs the same whatever store you go to as the regular non sale price. That price is set by the manufacturer. not the retailer.

Jewel can sell the product at whatever price they want to or decide to not sell them at all.

I am not buying it just commenting on the crazy price inflation on something that literally cost nothing to produce.

Not necessary. Big companies like Pepsi, Coke and Procter & Gamble pay for prime shelf space at grocery stores and on Chips they stamp (at least they did) the suggested retail price printed on the bag. The store either sells at the regular suggested retail price or sell the chips at a sale price. The shelf space payments is part of the revenue generated for grocers and keeps the major brands to be the primary items consumers buy as a perceived better product than its competitors.

It's only priced that high because people will pay it though.

I get complaining about the price of things like eggs and meat and other things you need to buy. Everyone can skip the $7 bag of chips and be better for it.

yeah, major brands big on managing shelf-space. knew this guy who was a semi-retired trapper (like animals for pelts, not music or whores or whatever). anyhow, he worked partish time (seemed like it was only mornings, for some reason) for Frito-Lay going around to the major retailers in his geographic area inspecting the Frito-Lay (prolly Pepsi too, i think they own FL?) shelved items and straightening and fluffing up the bags and checking dates etc.

One June he went to his son's house a couple hours away to trim some trees for his adult son and DiL; got up on a ladder with a chainsaw, fell and chainsaw killed him dead. Rip Kurt.

My wife buys tortillas, cuts a stack into 6's and cooks them up in the air fryer. Instant home made doritos, both healthier and less expensive.

Pepsi owns a lot of the famous brands like Frito Lays, Gatorade, Quaker Oats, Mountain Dew, Rockstar, Sabra, etc.. its a reason why many perfer buying Pepsi stock over Coke as coke is just a beverage company while Pepsi is big on the snack business.

There’s gotta be a cheaper way to it. What are generic napkins going for these days?

They're $3.99 (limit 3) if you clip it on the Jewel app.

Not many people will buy it at $6.29.

The regular price at Walmart is $3.98.
