I get work orders from care reps who answer the phones. Actually, they're technicians. Level one technicians. Here is some samples of the work orders I received from one particular rep, verbatim, redacted phone numbers and names: Quote: Station [redacted] when a secant call comes in on her 1st line it never goes to v-mail and when she has some one on her 1st line she can make a call out on her secant line but she never gets a dial tone. Quote: [redacted] called and said he did not won't the ANI going out on station [redacted]. Quote: [redacted] called and said that they can call 312-xxx-yyyy on there sell phones but can not call from there IP phones. Quote: Customer called and said she had several phones that can not dial there v-mil or Lon distance. Station W, X, Y, and Z so for Quote: [redacted] called and said that if any one calls the receptionist that the get the recording that we are closed dew to icy conditions recording. These work orders are printed up and included in the customer invoice each month. They see this. We're told to be courteous, professional, and accurate when recording work orders because they come back once in a while much later for legal review (see XYZ Corportation douchebag thread). Customers see this and think we're dumbasses or something. |

Any adult who can't spell at even a first grade level is an embarrassment to literacy. Americans lack even the fundamental spelling skills nowadays. It's ridiculous. Unfortunately, I think it's a losing battle. I've seen people who have spent more years in school than I've been alive who don't even know the difference between there, their, and they're. It bothers me. Those people should be mocked, beaten unmercifully, and mocked some more. And don't get me started on the misuse of apostrophe's again. |

I could even give the benefit of the doubt if a person is typing fast and they make a mistake. We've all done that. But these guys seem to really not be able to spell words like "second" or tell the difference between "cell" and "sell" or "do" and "dew." Truly moronic on all levels and again, the guy deserves a beating. |

We have a database at work where all of our phone call documentation is entered for the exact same reasons Darkside's company does. The grammar and spelling is priceless. Especially from management. |

Darkside- I have a similar situation at my job. One of my co-workers has to fill out technical trouble reports that engineers read and let's just say that they need an interpreter just to figure out what she is trying to say.

OK. So I googled secant anyway. I've forgotten so many things from Geometry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secant A secant line of a curve is a line that (locally) intersects two points on the curve. The word secant comes from the Latin secare, for to cut. It can be used to approximate the tangent to a curve, at some point P. If the secant to a curve is defined by two points, P and Q, with P fixed and Q variable, as Q approaches P along the curve, the direction of the secant approaches that of the tangent at P, assuming there is just one. As a consequence, one could say that the limit of the secant's slope, or direction, is that of the tangent. A chord is a segment of a secant line whose both ends lie on the curve |

This thread almost makes me miss the days I've spent as a senior admin reviewing troubletickets. My co-workers and I would reserve conferences rooms just to go over them all together and laugh our asses off. Between the initial call log and the service updates, we'd have an afternoon of fun that couldn't be beat. I had to reread the "secant" thing a few times. Somewhere along the line I realized what it was supposed to be in context and even then had a hard time following the bizarre sentence construction.  Good stuff DS.. |

Got a call today from a Dallas based telco asking about this former employee. He had put me down as a reference I guess, can't imagine why. Appearantly he said he was my boss and that he managed me for 2 years. I told them that no, he never was my boss, and I couldn't recommend him at all. Sorry Charlie. |
