Hello friends.

Augusta National Golf Club (or the place where they play The Masters every year, for you non-golf types) has traditionally been a male-only private country club since its inception 79 years ago.

ANGC also offers specialized membership invitations to some of the county's top CEO's, appearantly for being awesome and rich. One such CEO has traditionally been the head honcho at IBM.

This year, the "Big Blue" CEO is Virginia Rometty.

As of today, reports suggest that the club, and current chair Billy Payne, will hold steadfast to their "no females allowed" designation and refuse to offer an invitation to Rometty.

Is it time to finally allow women - especially those held in universally high regard from an industry-perspective - to become members of Augusta National? Or should all these ladies just STFU?

Have they offered specialized membership to the new McDonalds CEO?

IBM is a major sponsor of the tournament. I think this would be the easiest way to let a woman in
for them. It isn't like women don't play out there, they apparently just don't want to give her a
green jacket. I don't see what the big deal would be to let her in, they try to show class with
everything else they do just not in this instance in my opinion. I haven't heard anything from
her or if she is going to kick up any dust over this.

If Payne and ANGC hold fast in their tradition, I anticipate the IBM CEO will find a way to graciouslly "turn down" an invitation.

Darius Rucker was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish in the '90s. Now, Darius has gone country...

Then again, I thought Hootie Johnson ran Augusta National...

I got a chance to say hello to Billy Payne shortly after he took the job.
We were outside the gates looking down Magnolia Lane and a car came
out the gate. He stopped stuck his head out the window and said hello
and asked how we were doing.

Its a private club. You can agree or disagree with them, but its their rules.

Augusta has had African American members since 1990 so I would guess if they do it wouldn't be an issue.

Not even close to the same thing.

You don't pay $1000's per year to be in the KKK.
You also don't commit crimes on a regular basis by being a member at a country club (with the exception of gambling, as petty as that is.)

The point is that the thought process behind both is very archaic... Both are segregation just the same.
Well, my colleges alumni association is also just like the KKK then because they have rules for membership.

I don't think it's fair to equalize racial and gender. For instance, I don't think anyone has an issue that the Boy Scouts are for men and the Girl Scouts are for women. Gender separation is still fairly common and accepted. After all, we don't use the same bathrooms, get the same insurance rates, and the same time off for pregnancies.

I think Augusta should provide membership to women and I respect anyone who boycotts the Masters because of it but they can do it.

I agreed with Frank's statement about the "Private Club" and "their rules", RP Bryan. It doesn't make it right, but even in 2012, discrimination is still in our society.

So THEY DO commit crimes on a regular basis as they sit around hating blacks, jews, and excluding women?

Verdict: KKK + Augusta = MATCH

No, rpb. You can equate a racist, violent organization like the KKK with a country club as much as you desire, but you would be 100% wrong.

Elmhurst Steve told him. That's why he wanted to bowl for $500, for 6 months membership.

Does AGNC have the right to allow who they wish into their membership? Yes.

However I also don't see the harm in allowing female members. Except for the lack of female washrooms.
