Holy shit, do they hurt!!! Should of gotten them done YEARS ago. Still, a week off of work is no bad thing! But man, whomever called them wisdom teeth in the first place?

I'd like to set him up to get some major dental work done after I kick the crap out of him!!!

Stopped taking the happy pills the night of the surgery and two of the three teeth I had puled were impacted. No problems what so ever.

I still have mine. Had a dentist that said they should be removed, but I don't want to pay for it.

Lots of dental scams out there.

Everyone needs their wisdom teeth out.

Everyone needs braces.

I had to have them out as they were causing massive migraine headaches and leading to other issues. Thankfully i didn't have any major complications with them and the oral surgeon I went to was really awesome.

A week feels long for that procedure. I went under the knife for mine and I only missed a day of school.

Still better than a vasectomy.

I put it off six months too long so I could keep working. I had them pulled, and had a dry socket. Due to the dry socket, they gave me a ton of Vicodin. Went to work the next day, and chewed the original, and two refills like candy. The surgeon called me a moron, which is obvious, but also said I should be reacting more to the pain. Enjoy your week off. That's right.

The week off is due to a few factors. Trust me, I'd like to be back to work already. (Got to love that I get ZERO sick days.)

I needed a bone graft for where a few roots were wrapped into the jaw.

And, since I both need to lift and drive? Doc said no until I get cleared by him.

Brian Regan is awesome. Here's a YouTube clip of him talking about wisdom teeth. Starts about a minute in, but it's worth starting at the beginning.

Not in all cases, but there are more situations of this than people realize.

I have had a dentist tell me he pretty much refers every child to an orthodontist, and while he did not come right out and say it, it was insinuated he was doing it to help out his buddy get more business.

When I was 19 I had an infection around one of my wisdom teeth and the dentist told me I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth out immediately or else I would have nothing but problems the rest of my life and have one infection after another. I told him there was no way I could afford that as a poor college student. I am 36 now and have not had any more problems with any of my wisdom teeth.

And I have heard several others share similar stories.

A lot of times though, its easier (and much cheaper) to get a tooth yanked than to have a root canal or fight the infection.

Had a long time dentist ... everytime I went in there the broad said I needed to get those wisdom teeth out ... I'd always ask why, and she didn't even bother to dream up a reason, she just justified it by saying it was just best to get them out before they cause problems, like they were going to rape my uvula or steal my virtue some dark and stormy night .... needless to say I told her to eat shit and bark at the moon each and every time .... that was about 20 years or so ago (give or take), never have had problem one .... probably start killing me tomorrow knowing my luck .... eat my steamy shit if you don't like the format of this post.

I had all 4 of mine out at the same time. The upper two hadn't yet broken the gum-line, whereas the lower two had. If you can get them removed before they show up, do that. The lower two were bad. That shit hurt. Worse, I wasn't supposed to eat before, and it hurt too much after; I remember coming back from surgery and being at my parents house sleeping. I kept having these dreams where I was eating, and waking up chewing on the gauze they had at the back of my mouth. Awful.

I had all of mine out about 12 years ago or so. Awful and painful experience. They were impacted, pushing my other teeth around, the nerves were wrapped around the jaw etc etc etc. I was so doped up that my mom had to get me to the car in a wheel chair. Black eyes, swollen face, coagulated blood and I could only barely open my mouth to get some gatorade in. Pain pills were fun but hard to keep down because I simply couldn't eat. To wash the coag blood out I had to take the jet spray gun from the sink and just flush my mouth with it. I just laid on the couch in agony for 2 weeks, which sucked because that left me with only 2 weeks of summer until I had to go back to high school.

I also lost about 15 or so pounds as well.

It sucked.

I guess I was lucky, but I spent most of the first day sleeping in the morning, took a vicodin in the afternoon and didn't even notice anything different with the vidodin and I was out doing things the very next day. Only one of them really hurt, and that was the one that was almost sideways so the cut was bigger.

Hard to believe we're probably around the same age. I thought you were a middle aged baby boomer.

Not everybody needs them out. But odds are if you end up having a problem with 1 of them, you will have problems with the others as well. It is easier (and cheaper) to go in and yank them before they end up crowding your other teeth, which can lead to more extractions and/or much bigger bills.

Really? Hmmmmm.

The best part about the whole ordeal was that it was done on a Sunday afternoon so Nitro/RAW was to be on the TV. Now, I didn't have cable back in those days so we would always meet at my buddy Jeff's house to watch on his big screen projection television. I thought it was going to be quick and easy and, well, I come out of the drug induced haze, get up, give my best impression of the Shawn Michael's front double bicep mumbling "I gotta watch that Nitro" before quickly falling over. My mom said the Sociopath-Sadist-Jerk (The Oral Surgeon) had a good laugh.

Fuck that guy.

I was a trumpet player from 4th grade on, and so I didn't want to get braces in middle school lest I have to virtually relearn how to play my instrument (having started on a full-size trumpet and not a cornet when I was 8 years old, my embouchure was already kind of wonky and compromised) and risk falling from the elite trajectory to the remedial. Wisdom teeth came in, no real problems except I had to get a cavity filled in a bottom one last year. My teeth aren't perfect but oh well.
