For extending Chris Berman's contract.

For the love of all that is holy, why do they trot out that NFL Countdown crew? Is there a single one who has a brain among them? (Including the Coach, as he's slipping.)

i think ESPN keeps him around as a veritable mascot only because he carbon-dates back to the olden days.... that has to be it. this contract can't be given out for any sort of performance-related reasons... the dude is a sad caricature of a sad caricature of himself at this point. i seriously shudder whenever i hear him say DAH RAAAAHHHDDDAAASSSS or THUH GEEEEEE-MEN. that stuff is way more schticky and offensive than his dumbass baseball call of BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK that makes the annual homerun derby completely unlistenable.

does he still do all of the punny nicknames for baseball players, or has he retired that to focus on his football caricature caricature?

He's the comedy mask to Bob Ley's tragedy mask.

Now that's funny right there, kids.
