I have told some of them to their faces that the league is filled with lifers that couldnt create an inner office memo, yet alone work in a real business environment, so why would they expect real business to ever get done? Monday they send out an announcement regarding tickets NOW ON SALE! I just laughed it off as idiots working in a business office. Now they send me another email telling to disregard the email I got on Monday regarding tickets for sale, because they are not playing any games at the moment. REALLY??? The level of stupidity this league displays on a daily basis astounds me and they wonder why only a handful of people in each city appreciate what they do??? |

There shoulda been a game tonight. They are also keeping the money from games that have been missed in case they reschedule them. |

I heard they were paying a healthy interest rate to season reservation holders. Is that true? |

The Bears operation is not better. It is purely mom and pop with absolutely no feel for promotions or customer services. Their big event for PSL holders was a MNF watching party at the Cadillac Club. That's a nice enough event in theory. How do you say thank you to the people who plunked down anywhere from 3K-10K per seat up front and then 1K+ (all exclusive of ticket price and club fee of course) per year...you give them a ticket for one free sandwich at the event and then sell concessions if you want more. You could cater sandwiches for a reasonable price and make it look first class with your top customers. Instead, you act like these people were giving to a charity that needed every penny. |

I don't know why the players just don't set up their own games and play at alternative venues. |

Agreed. It really is much worse than what BigFan is painting. They can't market foreign players, which I can't understand because the NBA seems to do a great job embracing the global market. They can't market their own game. Do you remember the last Winter Olympics? There was a great opportunity to market that I feel was missed. And what the fuck is with the TV contract? How did you lose ESPN? The league in general is a joke, yet I can't help but love the sport, which I think addresses Good Dolphin's comment. When the sport is well marketed, watchable and enjoyable, people will back up the dump truck and pay whatever is needed to be part of it. When its not... you get the NHL on Versus for the niche fans like myself. |

It's a shame to say, but this league deserves to die. It is so incompent. They make the USFL look well run by comparison. I grew up watching hockey in the 70's with my dad. I took a break in the late 90's, and came back when they started putting the Hawk home games on tv. I feel for the die hard, knowledgable fans. I know there are a few on this board. |

How do you think NBC Sports Network is feeling right now? NBC Sports just extended their NHL contract for the next decade, complete with paying a rights fee. Ratings for NBC's Stanley Cup Playoff coverage last spring were actually up, even though the Blackhawks were out of the money in Round 1 vs. the Coyotes. Even though there are no games for NBCSN to broadcast, for starters, they're still paying the league $200 million this year, despite the lockout. Also, the voice of the NHL, Mike "Doc" Emrick, & Pierre McGuire were commissioned to call a college hockey game 2 weeks ago between Cornell & Harvard on NBC Sports Network. Dave Strader, another NHL/NBC voice, has been working college basketball games on their network while the league's players & owners have been at odds. |

I kind of feel the same way. I watched/listened in the 90's when I was in Jr high/ ear;y High school, stopped in early college and got back into it around 2005/6. The league was picking up a bit of steam, the Hawks were good, it was on TV, the Olympics was really cool and things seemed to be on an upswing...................and now this season is canceled because of a labor dispute. All momentum killed. As another poster said (McNown?) the players can go elsewhere to play and make good money. This league may very well be fucked. |

Guys, the NHL appeared to be on an upswing, but if they lose another season due to a work stoppage, any momentum they had will disappear forever. |

NBC Sports Network has had a lot of scheduling they've had to fill while the NHL has been locked out like this. NBC itself doesn't have such a problem...yet. |

NHL Fan, As you may have noticed from an email we sent Monday (where certain canceled NHL games were showcased) those of us at Ticketmaster really miss hockey! Given the league's recent announcement regarding canceled games through December 14th, tickets are not available to be purchased. Please disregard any indications that tickets for those games are currently on-sale. We apologize for this error, and we look forward to seeing you at future NHL events! Ticketmaster |
