OMG! I just got off the phone with a guy who had an accent so thick,I'm not sure if he understood what the request was or he told me he enjoys washing his dog. This is crazy. If you want to offshore,what about England? |

All I ask is that the person has a good enough grasp of the english language to help me with my issue. They don't have to speak with an American accent or tell me their name is "Robert". Just understand me and speak clearly enoughto have a conversation. I've only had a few instances where this wasn't the case and I make sure to inform someone higher up about it. |

Thank your politicians that allowed them to do it. There used to be a law in Illinois that i you provided phone service you had to have the help desk located in Illinois. Not no more thanks to the Democrats,friends of the working man my ass. |

More disturbing than the Indian accents, is the condescending way the scripts are written. I guess there are some people so dumb out there that it's required, but there has to be a way for me to get the guy to skip ahead to Line 36. I really don't want to sit there and answer questions and/or commands like, "Is your computer plugged in and turned on?", "Please turn off the machine and let it reboot.", and "Please close the browser and open a new one." My girlfriend ran a help desk for a very large company (before they outsourced it to India) and she has what I call a "help desk attitude". She is now a technical trainer who is very knowledgeable about tons of different software. Her first assumption when I ask for her help is that I am some kind of fucking moron. It used to end up in a fight or with her refusing to help me, but I've learned to grit my teeth and close the browser again for the tenth time. Which reminds me of something else. I get a lot of resumes where people have down MS Office under "Skills". I would no sooner put Office on my resume than I would put that I have the ability to answer a telephone or sign my name. Am I wrong about that? Should I update my resume? I am certainly more proficient with the Office suite than many of these young knuckleheads I have seen with it listed on their resumes. |

They are taught to follow the script no matter what,if they do not and the call is monitored they can be disciplined for it. |

You're probably right on the Office thing. I'm sure that was somewhat important awhile back, but not anymore. That said, there is a difference in someone who can use Excel and someone who can really really use Excel. That can matter. Not that it can't be learned/taught. |

It annoys me too, but you would be shocked how many people are that dumb. You were obviously lucky enough to never work helpdesk. You normally have at least one thing a day happen that people think you made up, such as the factory calling to say that the system is "broken" and you go out there and discover that the router was unplugged so they could plug in a fan on a hot day.

When someone calls at 4pm on a Friday with a problem that takes 3 hours to fix is when you really want to quit. With that said, I'd never do helpdesk ever again. |

I think that companies that take manufacturing and other jobs overseas need to have a nice heavy tariff on them. I am in no way nor ever will be a free trade conservative, I have stated this numerous times. |

People who list MS Office as a skill because they can adequately use a word processor after having used them since kindergarten should probably have their resumes and possibly selves set on fire. If you actually have proficiency in Microsoft Excel, like, as in knowing what you can do just by starting to fill a cell with an =, that counts for something. EDIT: beaten to the punch, drat. |
