I have been battling to the death on ESPN message boards over NIU's right to be in the game and the end result. The level of anger towards NIU and the amount of sh*t being talked is just beyond me. The game turned out as I expected for NIU as they faced a more athletic team with larger faster guys, but they went into the 4th quarter down 7 pts! KSU went in down 22! UCLA, they got smoked and so did Florida. I just don't get it. Lynch played like crap under the spotlight, but everybody is saying he is AWFUL?! Just not true, if you have watched him this season his performances were great and you can't put up the stats he did (regardless of schedule) if your AWFUL........whatever, I hope the masses have their talcum powder ready next season because NIU has a good chance to run the table and be right around a #15 ranking yet again....good season boys, I'm damn proud of you

Yeah, except nobody watched him this year.

Pretty much everybody outside the Greater Metropolitan DeKalb Area just saw this game and he was horrible.

I understand the out of town spect and he was BRUTAL in the Orange Bowl (although so was Colin Klein)...as for next year, this was Lynch's first season starting, given an off-season to work his tail off to improve his accuracy I don't see how he doesn't improve noticeably, and they are returning the entire offensive line. It's no guarantee, but I believe they should be able to get wins vs Iowa and Purdue. If they do that and slap the MAC around again, they will be in a great spot....

What's the outlook for Purdue next season, you see improvement from the 6-6 record this year?

Maybe if Drew Brees comes back.

Gameday coaching should improve. They'll probably have a freshman QB starting from the beginning, but they have two that are highly regarded.

The whole schedule is rough. I'd take gladly take 6-6.

It is also time for NIU to mature as a program and schedule nothing but BCS schools pre conference. This is how Boise St. started to build from a nice story to a legit program that everyone recognized as a contender each year.

Agreed, I think they are trying to lay that plan out....Really hope the recent exposure boosts recruiting along with the new indoor practice facility

2013 - @ Iowa, @ Purdue
2014 - @ Arkansas, @ Wake Forest
2015 - @Ohio State
2016/2017 - Home and Away with Nebraska

P.S. If you can't tell, I feel lost now the 2012 season is over and the 8 months until kickoff just seems too far away, thanks to all who have humored me by responding to my blather!

This would be a smart idea. Schedule the worst programs in BCS conferences to play each year like Illinois, Temple, Duke, and Washington State.

So NIU will have at least two regular-season losses the next two years.

Against Iowa and Purdue? That's not a given. Boise always had a home and away with Oregon State, that was a nice winnable series. They'd throw in a D2 like Sacramento State or Portland State too.

Duke is no longer a dormat and the arrow is pointing way up for them but the philosophy is correct...three name teams each year with one being a team you will likely see in the top 25.

2 losses? I don't see how.....I believe they should WIN 1 if not both Big Ten games next season and in 2014 Wake Forest shouldn't be too tough and Hell, Arkansas lost to Rutgers and UL Monroe this season so who knows if they'll be back on their feet

While I can understand why many question NIU going, the outright disgust displayed is out of line. For years the bowl system has been held up as a reward for teams and their fans for having a good season. At least that's why I heard a playoff system was not implemented. So a team not affiliated with one of the superconferences slips into a major bowl game? In basketball, everyone loves the Richmond Spiders knocking off a higher seed in the first round or the small-town hicks in "Hoosiers" going to the finals. Here is group of kids excited to step up to the next level and all they get is a piss fountain. Not that I ever believed the NCAA ever believed the "love of the game" and "spirit of competition" crap they spew, this is a shining example of how the big schools just look at the bowls as their domain and god forbid anyone else try to get involved. Maybe there should just be one giant conference of 25 teams that play each other and fill the bowl games and the rest can just go division 3 or 4.

Even if turdstreet didn't want to see it, the nation apparently did...

I had no problem with them being there, but in no way are they ready to take on teams of this caliber.

In ancient Rome, the ratings for the Christians versus the lions were huge as well. That does not mean that the Christians belonged on the same turf as the lions. The lions were invariably bigger, stronger, faster and meaner.
