Wow is Darkside gonna not like this one.... I am not opposed to hunting....but can't you guys at least make it a little more of a challenge? For about 1 month this guy puts food out in a clearing for Deer. He has the auto camera take pictures of when the Deer show up. So now they deer show up every afternoon to feed in a clearing and they have been doing so for a month, Now comes deer hunting season and shocking...The deer show up looking for their food, no food this time....but what do they find...a guy in his tree stand with a bow and arrow...Bam...Game over! How about no tree stands, so if you miss, the deer gets a run at your ass? |

Pre Bating is OK? (Yes, sounds like something you would do in a tree stand!) |

Wait, if you can bait a fish, why can't you bait a deer? Seems like the fish are getting a bum deal here. |

To be fair this isnt exactly the Serengeti... Maybe pour some female deer piss all over, then the smell of some fresh grass... It's like when the State of Illinois arrests the deliquent child support fathers by telling them they won a free big screen TV, all they need to do is come to the hotel and pick it up...and all these idiots come in one at a time looking for the new TV and 'cuff'....they usually do this 'sting' before the Super Bowl. Need to do this more often... |

Baiting is illegal in Illinois, but not in Wisconsin. Or Michigan or Indiana...but you can grow some apple trees n hunt there..so basically bait. Bow hunting is a challenge but rifle is no challenge. |

Frank Coztansa wrote: Its funny how few people realize how many different ecosystems actually depend on hunting. And hunters are generally among the strongest conservationists. Particularly with regard to deer, there just aren't enough "natural" predators, assuming most people do not consider man "natural". That may be changing to some degree with wolves and large cats returning to Illinois. I don't think coyotes usually would mess with a deer unless it was a fawn or one that was very sickly and weak, but the local coyote population has certainly exploded. There is one howling outside my window in fucking Lincolnwood right now. |

You can find video of coyotes waiting for a deer to deliver its newborn fawn and then pouncing. I think coyotes are a huge threat to the whitetail population. |

Coyotes are out of control with no wolves, they do kill a lot of fawns ..killing the rabbit n pheasant. Population as well...pack of coyotes could not catch or take down a healthy deer...have you ever seen a mom deer kick the shot out of 80 lb dogs or grown men? It is impressive. |

I never realized that coyotes ran in packs like wolves until I learned it on this board. But some of these coyotes are as big and strong as wolves. I know I read in Dale Bowman that an Illinois trail cam had grabbed a picture and there was some question whether it was a coyote or a wolf. Even an expert from IDNR couldn't be positive. |

Coyotes are mostly solitary hunters relying on opportunity. Hence the deer fawn or sick or recently dead animals. Wolves are a little like the king of the N. American wilderness next to Cougars I guess and will take down a Buffalo. |
