How do they plan on doing this? Basketball is a contact sport...football and hockey are collision sports. Concussion happen because of collision. Take away the collisons you take away the sport! |

I'm not a lawyer or a union rep. So I really don't know for sure. But I do that that dealing with brain injuries and trying to prevent them doesn't make them douchebags. Putz. |

Either they don't give a shit about the players, as you posted last, and won't do anything, or they DO care about the players, and change the game to the point where your Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball is forever changed, as your origninally posted. So which is it Flippy McFlipperton? |

Take away the collisons you take away the sport! I think the next move for the NFL will be the removal of kick-offs from football. The over the middle hits are fewer and fewer but the Patriots RB was TKO'd in the Ravens game on a regular running play. I can't see them stopping those short of going back to flag football. It's easier in the NHL. It can policed better by suspending those who choose to leave the ground to deliver a hit. And they can just as easily do away with blind side nuetral zone hits if they choose. Some will complain the game will become more European in style, but let's face it, the Hawks success this year has been helped by the enforcement of the clutching and grabbing that had become excessive. The hit on Hossa last night should have drawn more than a 1 game suspenion. |

I don't know why people would rather watch stumbling and tussling along the boards than wide-open, high-speed play. Especially in Chicago, where our team has had and will continue to have an undersized bottom six and defense relative to most of the league. As for the suspension on Hansen, it's hard to argue many more than three. Remember that it's 1 game out of 48 with a guy who has limited PIMs and no fines or suspensions. That was probably as much as they could get away with without the NHLPA filing a grievance -- I'm still not sure to what extent the union and arbitrators have been brought into the disciplinary procedure; that expanded counsel may not kick in till next year. We're thinking big numbers because Torres got 25, but I suspect we're forgetting that Hossa was made to leave a playoff game on a stretcher and that Torres's autobiography will be called A Life of Headshots. That was the league saying "that's fucking enough already" in the vein of the last big Matt Cooke suspension. |

Darkside wrote: Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball I don't believe there's been a reference that made me smile as much as this one. Mike Ditka's Power Football and Buster Douglas Boxing would have been equally acceptable. |

And I would be Ok with three when you put it in that context. The shot was just so blatantly cheap. |
