Post subject:  cost of college

I have a son who is a senior in high school. He's applied and been accepted at several different colleges and is just now starting to get his financial aid award notifications back from the schools. Just got one today from a small private liberal arts college. Estimated direct costs (tuition/room and board) for the 2013-14 academic year is $45,000. They just make up these costs to fuck with people, right?

Market distortion via government backed student loans will do that.

College should be more expensive.

I'm worried enough about the cost of high school, let alone college...and grade school isn't all that cheap either...unless, of course, you are one of those poor souls whose parents didn't care about you and sent you to public school.

Any parent that would send their son/daughter to a private grade school is a moron.

Any parent who would send his (or her in this more liberal environment) son/daughter to a private school is a moron.

Talk your Son out of going to private Liberal Arts College. An instate public school will cost you $15k - $25K. I had 3 kids in College at the same time. I told them that if they were going to College, it had to be an instate school.

When are youngest came home 18 moths ago from the local public school discussing porn sites, in 2nd grade, it was time to be a "moron" for me.

As a philosophy major from a small liberal arts college, it was totally worth it.

What until he comes home and knows the difference between using "our" and "are". Then it will have been money well spent.

I love you for this response because this is exactly the reason. They give out "free" money to pay the costs upfront with nothing down and no credit checks. Then we're surprised when costs go up double digits every year. Sounds like the housing bubble all over again.

This is why I tell my daughter to get that 3pt shooting pct up and yell at the boy if he fumbles once more time your oughta luck.

Seriously, the main reason I moved out here for this great job was that my kids get free tuition at Pitt. I tell them they have four choices for college. Pitt and the 3 other directional Pitt campuses.

My wife's a Badger. Was between that and Iowa, but she thought Iowa City was too white.

You parents paid for a Catholic education and did not receive one.

This is very common.

starves...

UIC LAS is $7,953.00 for Fall of 2013.

The first two years of college are typically the same for everyone...go to a J.C. to get your Calculus, Chemistry, and English classes.

Two brothers from the local public school.

One second grader, and his 1st grade brother.

And i would like to hear your thoughts on why no private grade school when you have a moment.
