Post subject:  Oscars Tribute to James Bond

From todays Trib:
But don't count on seeing all six surviving James Bond actors on stage for the planned special 50th anniversary tribute to the British secret agent's illustrious movie career.

"We have a tribute to James Bond which is really exciting and thrilling, but it never included the concept of six guys coming out and standing there awkwardly on the stage," Zadan said, quashing speculation that Daniel Craig, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore, Sean Connery and George Lazenby would unite on Sunday.

They don't want actors standing awkwardly on stage??? Then cancel the whole show, because that's all it is anyway! I'm guessing Sean Connery said "NO" and that killed it for the other guys. Here is how I would open the salute. It starts out with Rihanna singing "Like Diamonds in the Sky" Behind her the large diamond backdrop turns into the images of all the Bond actors. Shirley Bassey (who has been invited) rises from the floor singing "Diamonds are Forever" and aaawwwaaayyy we go!

Sounds great except you can keep Rhianna and that awful, terrible song of the airwaves.

If Connery didn't want to do it {"Go fuck yourshelf, Academy!"} Then they could've just got Darrell Hammond to fill in.

+007 Craig has been really great in my opinion. Had my doubts at first but he has completely won me over.

plus 1. He's the second best Bond after Connery.

I'd even allow someone to say Craig is the best, as its all a matter of personal taste. He's been awesome as Bond. Brosnan was overrated, Moore was "eh" and Lanzby was one and done.

Dalton could of made a good Bond if the story to either of his Bond films would of been even halfway decent.

Will James Bond, Jr. be included in this tribute?

Darnell Bond 006 was the best.

I heard Brosnan is the one who said no.

they were not equal in quality so why should they share an equal stage?

would you do this with the batmans we've had in cinema history?

A better tribute would have been not ignoring Bond films for 50 years for awards.

Oh that's right. Bond isn't:
1) French
2) Movies about making movies
3) Done by the same 4 or 5 directors/producers that are there every year.

Best Bond is subjective because everyone's taste is not the same. I like them all except for most of Moores stuff. I liked Octopussy but other then that his shit sucked big time.
If you ever read the original Ian Flemming stuff Craig comes the closest. I like him a lot he has the whole stone cold killer thing down that Bond is in the books. Landesby was even not that bad if you sit and watch it.The story told in the movie is really a turning point in Bonds life. Shame they did not keep with it but Moore I do not think could have been as serious of a actor or that audiences where ready for the heavy shit like we are now.

That's a good take, Chas. I was never a huge fan of Moore but I have believe that each actor was at the mercy of the movie itself and he tone of it. Lasenby would have never worked in the Moore's Bond Universe, to hammy and such, although I believe On Her Majesty's Secret Service was a pretty close adaption of Flemming's work. Dalton made a solid 'dark' bond and took the character in a different direction and gave us something more off color to look at. I liked Dalton as Bond and Daniel Craig's bond is a better, more developed take on Dalton's work.

When it comes to Pierce Brosnan I see him has an updated Roger Moore down to the silly movie plots and such.

I have never heard anyone say they thought Moore was even decent, everyone. Knows he sucked.
I wish they got Clive Owen over Craig.

I thought Brosnan was more Craig-Like in Goldeneye... for some reason they pussified him more and more as the series progressed.

And there whole every-movie-is-just-like-the-last-one didn't really help him either.

Make no mistake, 312, Moore was bad. No doubt about it.

Good point.

It's been such a long time since I've seen Goldeneye, though. I may be wrong, but that was supposed to star Timoth Dalton so (if true) it would have been more dark and "real" in both plot and character to Dalton's first two Bond movies.

The last 3 Brosnan Bond movies were not so hot. Too Roger Moore, too much useless baggage weighing them down. I do like Craig as Bond but I do believe, as 312 said, that Owen would have been an interesting choice as well.

The best written Bond was Goldeneye.

Back on subject: The salute to Bond resembled a commercial on TBS for a Bond marathon! The salute was short and terrible except for Shirley Bassey who can still sing great. They should have had actors on stage with jetpacks and Oddjob bolo's flying all over the place, instead they went cheap and it showed! The two gays running this Oscars turned it into a Broadway show. They should have broadcast it on BRAVO.
