I love good satire, but is calling a 9-year old the c-word a good idea?

Disagree.

Edgy, but funny. Either way, its comedy, if people are offended that's ok.

Its the Onion. If you're offended by anything they say, that says more about you than the Onion.

Denied.

No, it's not. You are spot on.

It was so "funny" they removed it from their Twitter feed.

I didn't actually find it all that funny, but I still agree with RPB and DB.

Agree with DB on what? Its acceptable to target a kid today? Or last month when he said "kids are off limits"

Who is being attacked? It's fake news. No one is posting pictures of Bears coaches children, which was actually part of an actual news site.

If you are comparing the Onion to an actual news source, you're dumber than I thought.

Anyone offended by The Onion was just looking for something to be offended at in the first place, so fuck those Caller Bobs.

Dear Readers,

On behalf of The Onion, I offer my personal apology to Quvenzhané Wallis and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the tweet that was circulated last night during the Oscars. It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting.

No person should be subjected to such a senseless, humorless comment masquerading as satire.

The tweet was taken down within an hour of publication. We have instituted new and tighter Twitter procedures to ensure that this kind of mistake does not occur again.

In addition, we are taking immediate steps to discipline those individuals responsible.

Miss Wallis, you are young and talented and deserve better. All of us at The Onion are deeply sorry.

Sincerely,

Steve Hannah
CEO
The Onion

Are kids off limits, or not?

Newsite or not was not the point of his post.

No.

My point of my previous post about children was more discussing bringing family members into a discussion when discussing a celebrity. In this scenario, the child is the celebrity. I would actually be more offended if the subject of a news story was about the girl's mother or father. They deserve their privacy, a celebrity should not have those same expectations.

Only to fools who think words have some magical power and that some must never be let loose lest we all suffer.

They took it down so they didn't have to deal with an avalanche of asshats; they have better things to do, like literally anything else.

Jerry: I think Tim Watley converted to Judaism for the jokes.
Father: And this offends you as a Jewish person?
Jerry: No. It offends me as a comedian.

You are trying to set up a strawman. One that is more poorly consructed than the average one. And then you post a peronal summation of the night's events as a flimsy attempt to justify it.

The exact quote from the CEO of The Onion is below. Anyone who wants to read the narrative being communicated by the company is free to do so. It's unambiguous and to the point about what they are about.

It was crude and offensive—not to mention inconsistent with The Onion’s commitment to parody and satire, however biting.

It was not a great joke.

Still, if you're offended by that, then you should avoid the Onion because they have printed WAY worse stuff than that.

I agree. If you're going to call a nine year old a Caller Bob, you should make sure that it's damn funny.

Someone made the decision to tweet that shit. They had to know that it was going to be really controversial. What offends me is that they were unwilling to own it. Fuck you. You said it. Stand by that shit.
