here's an example of what i mean:

"Tough games today but you girls did a great job. You had some nice catches at center field. Way to use your speed. Nice double to left field and way to go on your pitching. I'm proud of you and love watching you play."

this was sent from a mom to her daughter's fb page for everyone to see. the sentiment is fine, but why not send it via email? right, because then nobody would know your daughter played stellar d, pitched great, ran fast, and hit a double.

You mean my post to my daughter's teacher saying "Thank you for your glowing remarks on Alex's report card" was over the top?

Yet you felt the need to start a thread about it. Stupid mother praising her daughter.

Going to a facebook and posting that is the equivalent of say being in public are with people and instead of telling that to your daughter in a normal conversation voice, screaming it at the top of your lungs because you damn well know you are intending for that message to go to everyone else that can hear you.

Why does it bother you? FB or an email doesn't change anything. Sure FB and other places are where people go to lie or to pretend to be something they're not. I have friends and family who are deadbeats but if you read their FB posts you would give them Father and Mother of the Year awards. Just laugh at it and move on.

The way to get them to stop is to start congratulating their kids on accomplishments you've just made up. The key is to know key dates.

"Great job in the Christmas play rogers park jane!"
"You played really well in the playoffs Diana RFDC!"
"Great report card Krazy Gordon!"

I got in an accident once in my parents car way back when. Somebody rear ended me. I should have stopped driving and that would have solved my problem.

Oddly enough, my daughter is named Krazy Jane and Ivan's son is Rogers park Gordy. Total coincidence.

I love it! Facebook has made it SOOOOO much easier to meet REAL women! Meet a girl, find out if she posts on facebook regularly. If so, treat her like gum on shoe. If she doesn't, ring that bitch.

If getting rear ended isn't your thing I would suggest you stop allowing people to do it to you.

I think it's one of those things that you get once you become a parent. I hate saying that but I think it's true. I'm not one to post a lot about my personal life or my kids but I understand the feeling some parents get about their children accomplishments. On the other hand there are a lot of parents that celebrate mediocrity.

my issue isn't really with parents bragging about their kids. it's more about the fact that they post something that makes it look they aren't bragging and are simply praising the accomplishment. but they go into enough detail just to make sure all of their fb friends know what happened.

another example (from mom to daughter):

"we're so proud of you honey as you go off to _________ university on a full academic scholarship after you get back from your trip to paris."

the point is that facebook is a public forum. it's a literal "brag about something no one cares about". you are broadcasting anything you do or say, so you should be aware that it is being viewed by the public.

it allows private life to be tabloided, all very self serving.

and for those who are following my facebook statuses, i'm up to #5 for my list of my top 10 favorite siskel & ebert episodes. enjoy!

At least I haven't created a pseudo FB page for HRH to brag about. The parents who create the pages for their kids and post as if they were the kid creep me out.
